Final SAG Post!
Aren't you relieved? When people say the verb "sag" do you think automatically think of unionized actors? Glam Overload especially after that Vanity Fair cover. But we can't wrap up SAG discussions without a quick fashion run-through, can we? It wouldn't be right. I'm dying to talk about actual movies again. Funny how movie awards season shoves the movies into the background. Must watch some actual movies that don't have awards on their mind this week so that we can better appreciate all the sleek beauties and shiny gowns again by BAFTA & Oscar time.

Amber Riley, Paz de la Huerta, Angie Harmon, Throwback Goddess

Too Matchy-Matchy
Let's start with the TV girls because we never do and this was their last chance in the season to shine. This group is way too frustrating. I didn't know that Amber Riley (Glee) was rooming with Julia Stiles. How else to explain this saloon girl in mourning gown that we just saw at the Globes. Angie Harmon is wearing something that's very suspiciously Penélope Cruzesque and if you're not Penélope... Christina Hendricks remains a goddess but I don't know what to make of this.

Paz de la Huerta from Boardwalk Empire... matching lips with dress? Must she? Is that ever a good idea outside of maybe classic reds and even then. A little bit of red goes a long way. Aren't you glad other actresses didn't do this?

BEST DRESSED (TV Division)
Cara Buono (Mad Men), Julie Bowen (Modern Family), Edie Falco (Edie Falco!), Juliana Margulies (The Good Wife), Sofia Vergara (Modern Family)

The Pretty. The Unexpected. The Vivid. The Classy. The Va Va VoomLove that Bowen managed to pull off pants at a glam event; risky means big pay off if it works. When Modern Family first started I worried that Julie Bowen would have the boring "straight man" role among comediennes but...

(more after the jump including Best Dressed and the Black Swan girls)

she gets funnier and funnier, doesn't she? That show is bliss. Anyway... though this wasn't exactly a banner year for gowns don't you think they all look yummy?

BLACK SWANS
Appropriately doppelgangerish trivia about Noni, Mila & Natalie -- they're all 5'3". The casting on that movie was too superb.

Beth, Erica, Lily, Nina

Breaking News: Natalie and Benjamin will be placing Winona Ryder on the top of their wedding cake as decor. She's ready to go!

I actually l-o-v-e Barbara Hershey's dress. Anyone with me?

MORE LADIES. STAY WITH US..

Adams, Danes, Swank, Sarandon, MaraI just realized that I placed Claire Danes with the movie people instead of the TV people. Perhaps post-Temple Grandin and considering her all-time classic debut in My So Called Life I should shift my head to the small screen division. Amy Adams, Hilary Swank, Susan Sarandon all looked nice but "safe" but I have no comments. Do you?

Regarding Kate Mara: I always forget she exists until I see her. It's not purposeful. Any fans out there? I understand she can sing. That's a sure way to win us* over. Bring it, Kate.

*I'm pretending all of you share my singing actor obsession. Just go with it.

Lawrence, Kidman, HBC, Best Supporting Actress

I heard some of the red carpet talking heads complaining about Jennifer Lawrence's black belt but that hot pink sure is eye-catching. It probably needed the black so as not to temporarily blow out your retinal rods and cones (pssst. the winged eyeshadow was really cool, right?). Nicole Kidman usually makes best dressed lists but the top of that dress is just too busy. As is the back which is not shown here. Why can't jpegs be 3D and 360˚?  James Cameron, get on that, won't you?!?

Melissa Leo. Tell me how to feel. I'm not sure.

P.S. Did you read this great piece on Melissa Leo by Sheila O'Malley?

FINALLY.... BEST DRESSED

Mila, The Bening, Julia Stiles, Robin Wright, Hailee Steinfeld

This is the best Mila Kunis has ever looked. It's like her revenge on the Academy's Acting Branch for the snub. She's on fire (figuratively and visually). The Bening reminds everyone that she's a shimmering angel sent to us by Our Heavenly Auteur. Julia Stiles gown looked like it had its own spotlight. Hypnotic so I felt generous. But I guess she should be in the TV grouping, too. I'm tired. Leave me be. Robin Wright, looking sensational, is also getting sweet revenge. Isn't looking great after a breakup supposed to be the best revenge? Did you see her huge smiles on the runway, too... what's going on? I'm suddenly interested in The Conspirator all over again even though she won't be looking like this in that Lincoln assassination drama. (Unless Robert Redford has suddenly gone avant garde and anachronistic as a director.) Finally, Hailee Steinfeld does it again. Only a kid could pull of this dress but it's so perfect for her and for SAG. She's a child prodigy at dressing for awards shows. Only one big test left. If she wows at the Oscars, she wins Most Consisently Best But Also Varied For the Season doesn't she? How is this even possible?

Whew. Aren't you glad SAG is over?  NEXT

Who was your best and worst dressed?
