Jose in Agnes Varda, Audra McDonald, Holidays, Josh O'Connor, Nicole Kidman, Princess Cyd, Thanksgiving

by Jose Solis

Jose here. Perhaps more than any other year, I'm grateful for the fact that we made it. We survived! Despite of the government, natural disasters, the news, and especially the white patriarchy, we are still around. So this year I won't take the turkey and trimmings for granted. Every bite of pumpkin pie will feel like a blessing.

So this year I'd like to give thanks for the following:

• Nicole Kidman at Cannes, Nicole Kidman at the Emmys, Nicole Kidman at the CMT Awards, Nicole Kidman in Deer, Beguiled Nicole Kidman, Nicole in Dior, Nicole's parrots at the SAG awards.

• The No Man's Land scene in Wonder Woman. Still the most electrifying moment I've seen in any movie this year.

• Kate Winslet in Wonder Wheel.

• Cosmo Jarvis in Lady Macbeth.

• Josh O'Connor in God's Own Country.

...Come to think about it, any brooding European dude in a movie set in the country.

• Making my New York Times debut by writing about one of my favorite movies turned Broadway musical.

• The mindfuckery of mother!

• Agnes Varda's chubby toes in Faces Places.

• Pé singing "Granada" in The Queen of Spain.

• Audra McDonald singing her heart out mid-orgasm in Hello Again.

• RiRi in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

• The warmth and kindness of Princess Cyd.

Jose (the bearded one on the right) learned how to speak English by memorizing Bambi when he was a toddler. He has loved the movies ever since and will forever be grateful to Nathaniel for giving him his first opportunity to write for an American outlet. Upon moving to NYC he started a torrid affair with theatre and became a member of the Drama Desk; however, he comes home to cuddle with the movies every night.
