Chris here, with first looks for two of our most beloved actresses. The first is far less dramatic than those fabulous smoking set photos, but comes with some dramatic backstory: Mary Magdalene. Here we see Rooney Mara's biblical woman gorgeous and windblown between smoke breaks...
The film reunites Mara with her Lion director Garth Davis and was originally scheduled for this year before being shuttled to 2018 The Weinstein Co. prior to the landmark revelations about Harvey Weinstein. They had slated the move to an Easter-friendly March 30, but it remains to be seen if the floundering company will still release the film. If not, there should be no trouble for the film to find a new home - Warner Bros. was quick to snatch Paddington 2 from the indie house.
Meanwhile it's one of our other favorites that gets to indulge in a smoke. That shadowy figure below is none other than Julianne Moore in Sebastián Lelio's remake of his own film Gloria. We're fans of the original around The Film Experience, and it will be interesting to see how Lelio adapts his film about a lovelorn woman in her 50s. The Chilean director has had an ambitious few years - he has this year's Chilean Oscar submission A Fantastic Woman, next year's Disobedience (which I saw at TIFF and has a great performance from Rachel McAdams), and also his own remake in the English language. If you haven't caught up to Gloria, it's currently available on Hulu! Are you excited for these two films?
