1960 The Golden Globes of 1959 are held (though it should be noted that there are conflicting reports and some say it was March 8th). Some Like it Hot was the big winner taking three prizes: Comedy Picture, Comedy Actor (Jack Lemmon), and Comedy Actress (Marilyn Monroe). Curiously NONE of the Globe acting winners that year went on to win Oscars. It should also be mentioned that Ben-Hur was a big winner in Drama. Supporting Actor went to Stephen Boyd for his delicious turn as homoerotic Messala. He wasn't nominated for the Oscar but his non-Globe nominated costar Hugh Griffith was... and won. 1959 is one early example of the Globes being more insightful than the Oscars ... which happens occassionally and which they almost never get any credit for, probably because they make inexplicable or questionably motivated decisions just as often.
