Today's Must Read
BuzzFeed good piece by Allison Willmore on the maddening response to absolutely nothing moments proclaimed to be LGBT "firsts!" in movies. Two parts of the problems she doesn't mention though are 1) the internet demands for constant content incentivize journalists to blow everything out of proportion including super stupid things like "LeFou is gay!" and 2) too many pop culture journalists are operating from a place of zero knowledge about pop culture before they were, like, 12.

more links after the jump including insightful pieces on Feud and an investigation of Logan's family jewels...

More Feuding
New Yorker really insightful piece on the artistry of Joan Crawford and Bob Aldritch that Feud is ignoring. This was so heartening to read because so many people are so basic about just accepting the party line about Crawford's gifts. Since it's Crawford's birthday here's the part of the article I was standing and cheering during:

In addition to overlooking the artistry of Aldrich, “Feud” overlooks Crawford’s artistry as well. That’s consistent with the long-standing critical view of the two performers, which reflects a fundamentally mistaken view of the cinema that’s prevalent to this day—a misconception of movies as a virtual fusion of literature and theatre. Intellectuals take pleasure in celebrating Davis, an actress defined by her theatre-based methods, artistic self-consciousness, and affinity for literary material. By contrast, Crawford started as a chorine and her range of performance wasn’t large; her theatrical craft was modest but her onscreen presence and projection of character was—and, in the rewatching, is—colossal.

Miscellania
Queerty Hugh Jackman's unusual wrap party gift the first time he played Wolverine in a solo film (not sure I believe this story, tho, since there are plentiful picture of Jackman with a flesh colored swim suit on on set)
The Muse ...speaking of Wolverine's dick. Bobby Finger argues that it's uncut. No really. Convincingly, too.
Variety Amy Schumer has dropped out of the live action Barbie comedy
Variety ... instead she is going to make the dramedy She Came to Me with Nicole Kidman
THR Great cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto (Brokeback Mountain, Silence) is going to try his hand at directing with a revenge thriller called Bastard - no cast announced yet
MNPP a great suggestions for the perfect actor for a Michael Haneke biopic
Deadline the war drama Thank You for Your Service is heading to late October... which is a good spot for Oscar campaigns these days. The film stars Miles Teller
i09 wants a Gaston prequel to Beauty and the Beast. Nooooo (I could totally see Disney doing this, though, because you know they'll find a way to keep each revenue stream going)
Variety Jake Gyllenhaal already planning to reteam with his Life director The Anarchists vs Isis

Off Cinema
The Slot this is rather amazing. The new Time magazine interview with T**** redacted to remove everything he says that's not verifiably true
