Time to play Streaming Roulette. Each month, to survey new streaming titles we freeze frame the films at random places with the scroll bar and whatever comes up first, that's what we share. No cheating.  What does Amazon Prime offer us for free viewing this month? Let's survey...

Wasn't your old dog named Digby?

Pushing Daisies (Seasons 1 and 2)
In case you wanted something actually worth binge-watching. This series is so perfect, from its macabre plots, to its quirky romance, to its colorful design, through its curiously moving musical numbers. I miss it so much. Maybe we should watch the entire series again?

You sound like your father.

The Cell (2000)
I have never seen this. But even though people say you should (given the visuals) I have probably had enough serial killer movies in my life. I'm saving whatever small amount of energy I have left for that genre for the second season of Mindhunter.

Who's we?

La Mission (2009)
Did any of you see this? It's pretty good. Benjamin Bratt is a macho dad who has trouble accepting his gay son.

[scary music]

Deadly Blessing (1981)
Look, Sharon Stone before she was famous! It's a Wes Craven movie. There are a lot of horror films streaming for October though not a lot of good ones.

Hanna's here with our refreshments. Could you get the door?

Gods and Monsters (1998)
Awww, love this one. Sir Ian definitely should've won the Oscar. I haven't seen this in a long time. I wonder how it holds up? Also look at that amazing set decoration.

It's not about knowing your enemy. It's all about knowing yourself.

Bulletproof Monk (2003)
I think I saw this because of a hard crush on Seann William Scott. But I remember nothing. You?

I still like your ass. I'm crazy about your ass.

Bitter Moon (1992)
Roman Polanski thriller. Hugh Grant and Kristin Scott Thomas are both in this (!!!) though they didn't pop up in this scene (sigh).

[no dialogue]

An American Werewolf in Paris (1997)
Noooo. I didn't need to see a rat while skimming movies. I was hoping for that scene starring Tom Everett Scott's naked bum. I believe this movie is very bad but I only saw it once right when it came out so perhaps I am wrong. At the very least there's Tom at peak cuteness and the always delicious Julie Delpy. There's also Julie Bowen before Modern Family for 'before they were famous' kicks.

Palindromes - that's something you spell backwards and forwards the same way.

Frankie & Johnny (1991)
You guys I totally forgot that Nathan Lane was in this. But streaming roulette is not being kind today because how did I not land on a Michelle Pfeiffer scene? Denied! She's very good in this, miscasting complaints aside. But also Kate Nelligan (pictured) was terrific as her coworker friend.

STOP TALKING TO ME! I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!

Blue Steel (1990)
Okay I've officially had it with streaming roulette today. No Jamie Lee Curtis scene for this Jamie Lee Curtis vehicle? Boo! But Kathryn Bigelow directed this cop drama so check it out if you haven't.

Okay that was a lame episode of Streaming Roulette. Apologies! If we were able to choose what was streaming in a given month, you'd actually see some shake ups in the standards streaming rotations. They really should hire guest programmers, shouldn't they?
