NATHANIEL R in 1917, DVD, Russia, The Cranes Are Flying

A biweekly look at what's new for home viewing...

New on DVD or Blu-Ray
1917 - Sam Mendes continuous shot war epic took home 3 Oscars. We shudder to think how reduced it will be via motion-smoothing on the nation's TVs.
Clemency -Too somber to win legions of fans but this death row drama has amazing performances
Come to Daddy - Elijah Wood sure does make a lot of indies, doesn't he?
The Current War - After years of sitting on a shelf and then a swift wide release, we're definitely curious...

The Cranes are Flying - One of the greatest movies of its decade, and an unmissable piece of Russian cinema.
Rise of Skywalker - a bummer considering it was capping off the most popular film series ever
• Song of Names - lost in the glut of releases last awards season was the costum drama about a violin prodigy

The takeaway? Make room for The Cranes are Flying on your shelf. Or at least in front of your eyeballs for a spell.
