What is this list?

THIS LIST IS NOT...
...a "greatest of all time list" or a list meant to reflect consensus. For example: The Godfather (1972) is a great film and deserving of its classic status. You'll get no argument for me. But because I have no true personal connection to it, it does not appear.

... it is also not a list about recent films. I believe in allowing films a decade to settle first. This list covers films made up until 2001. In the next update of the list films from 2002-2004 and later might appear. I plan to update it every 3 years IF and only if i actually ever complete it.

THIS LIST IS...
...a list detailing the movies that have had the greatest effect on me as a cinephile, whether because of the time frame I saw them in, how often I think of them, or due to the things that they taught me about movies and my relationship to them.

...a list of movies I love because of but usually beyond their merits.

For a clue as to the movies that might appear... the "top ten" pulldown menu looks at films by year.
