Shoutout to those who listed Patricia Clarkson, Alfre Woodard, Sarah Polley, Kimberly Elise and Chiwetel Eijofor!
It might be fun to see Isabelle Huppert, Mathieu Amalric, Daniel Auteuil, the Emmanuelles Béart or Devos, Valeria Golino, Baltasar Kormakur, Giancarlo Giannini, or Miki Manojlovic get more roles in English. Or motherfucking KOJI YAKUSHO!
RIP Katrin Cartlidge, never forgotten.
Olivia Williams, Emily Blunt and Sarah Gadon.
Jamie denbo, Riki Lindhome, and Julie Brown.
Another thought that just came to me Megan Follows! Surely theres more in here then Anne of Green Gables and Shakespeare.
I'd consider Sissy Spacek, she's fabulous in everything she does. I miss her on screen.
Yes, Sissy Spacek is amazing. Please give her a lead role.
Sissy Spacek, great actress.
Oh, yeah!!! Sissy Spacek is so down to earth. Please give her a part.
What a great idea for a post. I completely agree with the above mentions of Ewan McGregor, Rosamund Pike, Rosemarie DeWitt, and James McAvoy. I have never understood how McAvoy didn't become a big star after Atonement.
To add some TV people to the list, I would love to see Jason Dohring from Veronica Mars and Katee Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica cast in some juicy movie parts by some terrific directors. They are both such brilliant actors with tremendous range, and it makes me sad that they aren't being cast in great projects.
I'm going to boost some of my favorite unknowns:
Benjamin Bonenfant: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3527797/
Mark Jude Sullivan: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2900377/
Will Bethencourt: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3475752/
Kristin Scott Thomas. Amy Adams. Jacki Weaver.
yes Sissy Spacek is a GREAT actress!
I still think she would've played a mesmerizing Sister Aloysius Beauvier in "Doubt".
Joan Allen, Marcia Gay Harden, Anjelica Huston, Kyle Chandler, Oscar Isaacs, Rosemarie DeWitt, Mark Strong, Margo Martindale, John Benjamin Hickey
Loretta Devine, Melanie Lynskey, and Annette Bening
ALTERNATES: Elizabeth Shue, Rosemarie Dewitt, and Emma Thompson (who really should be in absolutely everything ever).
If I was in France, the answer would be: Deneuve, Deneuve, DENEUVE!
Jake Gyllenhaal, Scarlett Johansson and Maria de Medeiros
I'll add Bates since everyone continues to add names. It was impractical to come up with 3 but I believe Elaine May (now 80 something), Sharon Stone (she should have Meryl's roles) and S Epatha Merkerson is beyond comprehension in terms of excellence.
Grace Zabriskie, John de Lancie, Giancarlo Esposito.
not much chatter about queen been meryl streep.
my choices: ann-margret, debra winger, cher.
jimmy: Because it's who we want to see more of, not people who have solid, full featured star careers, like Streep.
Robin Wright, Diane Lane & Helena Bonham Carter or Emily Blunt.
Everyone knows her and will throw anything she's the right age for to play. And since they don't write much for women of a certain age she receives the first right of refusal to everything.
Sissy, THE LUMINARY!
Vincent Cassel, James McAvoy, Ewan McGregor
Rosemarie Dewitt
Toni Collette
Kristin Scott Thomas
Patricia Clarkson, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Alan Alda.
I'd consider Rachel McAdams, Naomi Watts, and Renée Zellweger for every film. They're underappreciated and have so much more to show us if they get the right parts.
Kathryn Hahn, Kathryn Hahn, Kathryn Hahn.
Maria Bello, Vera Farmiga, Daryl Hannah.
I would raid the stage and grab Jayne Houdyshell, Nina Hellman and Gibson Frazier.
Katie Jarvis (thought she could've been nominated for Best Actress for Fish Tank), Alison Janney, and Cillian Murphy.
Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench, and I'm not excluding THE SHIPPING NEWS.
Marsha Mason, Jessica Lange and Toni Colette
sorry, there's two l's in Collette
Meghan: I really think Jarvis should have (especially when compared to the stiff and affected work of Carey Mulligan in An Education), but it really says a lot more than, say, Keith Lemon: The Film about how broken the British film industry just might be right now when a performance THAT GOOD doesn't get anyone working on MORE STUFF FOR HER TO DO! I get why Hollywood doesn't have stuff designed for her, but BRITAIN as well!!!? CAN I GET A "NO BLEEPING WAY"!!!!!?
Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Sam Rockwell, Jim Sturgess
Cynthia Nixon, Jane Horrocks and Patricia Clarkson
Ken Watanabe, Anthony Mackie, Clifton Collins Jr.
These guys are so interesting and have such soul, I want to see them in well-written leading roles that take advantage of their talent.
Phyllis Logan, Judy Davis and Allison Janney.
