Cast This: "Ocean's Ocho"

Remember that time when everyone was excited about the prospect of a female Expendables even though that action series wasn't any good in the first place? We were guilty, too. But the prospect of an all female version of another Oceans 11, not THAT sounds worthy of premature fandom.

There's one in the works right now with Sandra Bullock & Cate Blanchett headlining a la Clooney & Pitt.

The film is currently being referred to as Oceans Ocho suggesting the team of thieves is only 8 women wide this time and maybe it's taking place in some Spanish-friendly locale? We wish it were using the working title of Oceans Veinticuatro because more actresses hollaaaaa.

There are already rumors zooming around about other possible co-stars like Jennifer Lawrence (because that one needs more franchise. smh) and Gillian Anderson (a far more intriguing proposition) but nothing is set in stone since we're still talking casting and pre-production.

1960s Cast 2000s cast

We need six more actresses to work with Bullock and Blanchett. Who would you have them be and why?

Remember that the first two iterations of this franchise had a wide range of stardom-levels, ages, and personalities so follow suit with your suggestions. Let's make it extra enticing!

Yaya DaCosta (Robbed since 2004)
Sareh Bayat (Talking about lovely & amazing)

NathanielR- Thank you. I also just thought of another possibility to make the group even more inclusive: Mya Taylor. The girl killed it in Tangerine and she deserves a great mainstream role.

Also, my suggestions for the male lead, or leads, would be Tom Hardy and/or Idris Elba. I would also highly suggest Oscar Isaac. But Star Wars might keep him as busy as he already is.

Matt - i love your brain. Mya Taylor is a great idea. She's got comic timing, she's memorable, she deserves a more mainstream breakthrough.

Sandra Bullock & Cate Blanchett

EMMA STONE
REGINA KING
(extremely underused actress and would be an incredible addition to this kind of ensemble)
AMY RYAN
(the MOST underused and under appreciated actress I can think of. She could be funny AND be a badass. The movie would be much better with the nuance and badassness she'll bring to it)

DANIELLE BROOKS (this, to me, is a no brainer for the Bernie Mac role)
AUBREY PLAZA
GINA RODRIGUEZ
ROSE BYRNE
ALLISON JANNEY (should be totally obvious at this point)
Sigourney Weaver, Lily Tomlin, Sally Field, OR perhaps most interestingly Isabella Rosellini would all be great as the Carl Reiner role, each bringing their own thing to the part.

Also, Viola Davis as Andy Garcia BUT Amy Adams could be really cool in a role that not many would think her to play. I'm picking Adams just because I think that would be a great unexpected casting choice.

Idris Elba is a fantastic choice for the Julia Roberts role. Saw that in one of the earlier comments and I just think that's incredible.

Sandra Bullock
Cate Blanchett
Emma Stone
Regina King
Amy Ryan
Danielle Brooks
Aubrey Plaza
Gina Rodriguez
Rose Byrne
Michelle Yeoh
Allison Janney
Lily Tomlin

with Idris Elba
and Amy Adams OR Viola Davis

Mine is so long but god there are so many faces I wanna see in this movie!

Some lovely suggestions. Some that haven't come up yet, but that I would love to see in Ocho:

-Christina Hendricks
-Debi Mazar
-Winona Ryder

And then, out of left field, Jasmine Guy. I don't know what she's been doing since A Different World, but I love hearing her talk in interviews with her smooth, non-Whitley Gilbert voice.

MARIAH CAREY

To me this is a joke. Are there no good original screenplays available? The last thing audiences need are pointless gender remakes of marginal films that starred men.

Cate, Sandra, Laura Dern, Lucy Liu, Salma Hayek, Golshifteh Farahani, Danielle Brooks, Gina Gershon, Jenny Slate, Ellen Page, Alfre Woodard, Mya Taylor, Kether Donohue, Eva Green, Amy Sedaris, do I have to stop or can I just keep listing names...?

Lea Seydoux
Lorraine Toussaint
Maggie Cheung
Gugu Mbatha-Raw
Rachel Weisz
Amy Schumet

I'd also like to suggest Nicole Kidman or Chloe Sevigny for the Andy Garcia antagonist seat.

Cate Blanchett is not a sure thing, yet. When asked about it by Showbiz 411 she said, “It’s in the air, but it’s not done yet. I’ve always wanted to work with Sandra, so I’m hoping it happens, but I truly don’t know yet." Keeping my fingers cross she does it!

Also, rumor is Mindy Kaling, Elizabeth Banks, and Helena Bonham Carter have already been cast. After that, I wouldn't expect any big name stars to file out the group.
