I'm thinking about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's review of La La Land; imagine it in the late 70s with Gregory Hines and someone like Liza Minnelli?
"Can Dev Patel really win best supporting actor? Or could (gasp) Jeff Bridges pull off a surprise win in an effort to reward Hell or High Water somewhere? I still think Mahershala Ali has the edge, but honestly I could see a case for either him, Patel, Bridges, or even Hedges. This category reminds me a lot of the supporting actress race in 2007 when Our Dear Tilda eked out a win after a wildly confusing precursor run for Amy Ryan (Critics Choice Winner), Cate Blanchett (Globe Winner), and Ruby Dee (SAG Winner)."
Tilda was a win for Michael Clayton foreshadowed by a BAFTA win so if they want to reward Lion with Patel - the pattern is there just as it was for Rylance last year. And then Moonlight gets its representation in adapted screenplay.

I don't understand, it's not about seeing his or her film. It's about if you commit a crime you should be in jail and not working. If a regular person was even accused of something he/she would be fired. That is my issue with it.

Casey Affleck was so good in Manchester by the Sea. I don't care what he did off-screen; he deserves the win. If Danzel upsets, I'd be pissed.
Nathanial ,I am too am a actress sexual and an anglo file as well. With the Oscars around the corner,I was thinking that the British invasion of the 1960's gave us much great music. But it also introduced us to some of their great and upcoming Brit actresses as well! Many of the 60's Oscar nominations were from there, from the early to the later years. I love that era and gave us from Deborah Kerr and Glynis Johns in the Sun Downers in 1960,up until Maggie Smith in Miss Brodie in 1969. Then in between we had Rita Tushingham,Samantha Egger,Julie Andrews,Lynn and Vanessa Redgrave, Glenda Jackson,Elizabeth Taylor(by birth),the women of Tom Jones(1963), and of course my favorite 60's "it"girl Julie Christie! Any thoughts or do you have a favorite era for actresses?
Oh no - I just found out Anya Taylor-Joy has signed on to play Magik, a.k.a. Illyana Rasputin in X-Men: Supernova - very disappointing, I must say!
She should do cool little indie projects - not run around in front of green screens
while given nothing to do.
Very disappointing she couldn't resist the super hero paycheck!
