As much as I would PREFER for Glenn Close to not only win a Lead Actress Oscar, and for a better, juicier role (like Sunset Blvd could be) but as Nathaniel said, who knows if it'll ever happen.
You also just never know what movies/roles will actually be in conversation, and on top of that what the competition will look like. I say just give it to her now because there may never be another chance.
In the beginning of the season I thought for sure she was winning, and then I wasn't even sure she was still going to be nominated. This has been a more unpredictable season than usual and supporting actress is the biggest product of that, so who knows... but ultimately I'm rooting for Glenn to finally get her Oscar. And this seems like a good chance to do that considering the fellow nominees--they all have equally strong arguments/pros and cons.
Also, Four Good Days... Despite the meh reception, I was excited bc I'm still waiting for a juicy role to help Mila Kunis snag her Oscar nom she barely missed for Black Swan. Plus, Glenn Close.
But the trailer dropped and boy did that trailer make it look bad, lol.
Cinemas are open here! I'm going to see Nomadland this week.
I want desperately to see Promising Young Woman and French Exit. Here in Italy we still don't know when movie theaters will reopen...

You and me both. I'm not even going to watch it before voting for the SAG awards tbh, since I know my vote is going to either Bakalova or Colman.
Working stiff--I'm really dreading it. I hated the trailer. I loved Bakalova. I'm seeing Colman tomorrow--The Father is one of my most anticipated films of last year. From what I've seen, Yuh-Jung Youn is my choice for Supporting Actress. I feel she will be hard to beat since I really, really liked Bakalova. I think Seyfried will end up in my Top 5. She's really solid.

Have you seen Promising Young Woman yet?
Will the Academy feel worse about Glenn not winning yet again, or about the fact that for an even longer period it has repeatedly shunned actresses of Asian descent? Voters who have these pseudo-moral qualms have two ways of ameliorating the "injustice." Vote for MeeMaw or vote for MeeNaw. In the end, these members will split their votes and Bakalova will emerge as the victor.
@JF The trouble with a SUNSET BLVD movie is Andrew Lloyd Weber, Inc. will probably make demands that alone will cost 30 mil. I doubt very much they'll strike a "profit participation only" deal. They'll demand a lot more of an advance than Hurwitz, Pasek and, Paul. The development budget, could already be past 30 million. Remember when SUPERMAN RETURNS had spent something like 80 million dollars in development before Bryan Singer had even been hired?
Watching Tim Gray's interview with Paul Raci just offers up more evidence of why lead actors need to get shut out of the supporting categories. His story is just so inspirational, and the Academy nomination is a just reward for decades of slogging it out in acting. Who knows how many more of those stories we could have had if Pitt, Ali, etc. could've been barred from category fraud.
What @davide says. Look, I know it makes a lot of people crazy to think people take all this stuff into account, but really, when you get to the four to six best performances of the year, it's apples and oranges. Do you want to reward Close or send a message out about inclusivity, or, rather, one about how one values comedy and improvisational skills? Most of us, if we're being honest, rarely have a "best" we want to reward in a lot of these categories, especially in the above-the-line categories. We just really love a number of the choices. In a better world, we'd get together and celebrate the top five in every category and not feel the need to declare one winner. Until then, people are gonna think: "Close, or Asian Lives Matter?" And that's perfectly legit.
Since you've done your Oscar hierarchy of both Actors and Actresses (which I loved) I've been thinking about Actors and Actresses that have only been nominated ONCE in any acting category and actually WON, never to be nominated again. Hattie McDaniels comes to mind immediately. Louise Fletcher would be another. Think it would be an interesting list for discussion.
The ending of Save Yourselves! is driving me crazy.

Caught up with three of the five Oscar docs. Struggled a bit with The Mole Agent because it didn’t seem like a doc but LOVED My Octopus Teacher and Crip Camp.
Watched a couple of episodes of Beartown after Another Round. Some Scandinavian men are so sexy in a dark and stormy way.
Danielle Brooks has got three great roles coming up. I’m so happy for her — it’s about damn time.

It would be an odd collection. I think Ernest Borgnine and John Wayne would make the list. Jim Broadbent, Jennifer Connelly, Adrien Brody, Forest Whittaker, Jennifer Hudson, Marion Cotillard. I'm sure there are more. The list would be long.
@Brandz, I thought John Wayne, too, but I double checked and found he was actually nominated before for "Sands of Iwo Jima". (Too bad I didn't double check Streisand.) Marion Cotillard was nominated again for "Two Days, One Night" in a jaw dropping surprise that suggests that once you're in the club your likely to get renominated, unless your name is Charlton Heston, Jeremy Irons, Art Carney, Linda Hunt, Tilda Swinton, James Coburn, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ernest Borgnine, Adrien Brody, Jim Broadbent, Jennifer Connelly, Timothy Hutton....
By the way, does anybody remember the trailer for KINSEY? When they go through the cast at the end we see: A film by Oscar Winner Bill Condon, starring Oscar Nominee Liam Neeson, Oscar Nominee Laura Linney. Then you get to poor Timothy Hutton's name and it just says, Timothy Hutton. At that moment, I thought he should fire his agent.
Working stiff—not yet, but I have this feeling that Carey is winning that Oscar.
Still haven’t watched most of the Oscar contenders.
