Now Streaming: Luke Cage's Day Off - A True Story

The following titles are now streaming for your pleasure. We've freeze framed them at entirely random places and shared the first thing that came up as is our whimsical practice. Do you have any desire to see (or revisit) these based on this evidence?

NOW STREAMING ON NETFLIX

Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
LOL. Totally forgot about this sly partners in crime shopping scene. Have you seen this recently? It's so great but for every cutaway to Mickey Rooney (sigh). Nominated for five Oscars including Best Actress. (It's actually kind of a surprise that this hasn't been remade since it was originally envisioned for Marilyn Monroe and could have obviously been an entirely different sort of movie.)

seven more after the jump including Marvel's Luke Cage and a 1940s Best Picture winner...

Curio: Holiday Snail Mail

Alexa here. I did my part today to keep the USPS in business by sending out an armload of holiday cards. So for those who also take the time to send a greeting through the mail, and who aren't making personal greeting card appearances à la Andrew Lincoln, here are some of the more clever film-themed greetings available that don't involve Clark Griswold or Ralphie.

Die Hard, The Shining, Holly Golightly and more after the jump...

Tis the season for John McClane. Avilable here.

Breakfast With... Holly Golightly

A cup of coffee and a croissant... a classic New York breakfast.

What did you have / What are you having this morning? And which movie was the first one you thought of today?

Curio: Cinema Comics

Alexa here. I've never been a huge follower of comic culture (although a graphic novel or two has found its way to my heart, such as Asterios Polyp.)  In fact, I've learned of the existence of certain comics because of the film version: I first took notice of The X-Men thanks to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, and Watchmen may have been an acclaimed graphic novel, but I'd never heard of it until Zack Snyder took it on.  So I'm getting a twisted pleasure from the reversal in these comic versions of films I spotted on etsy.

Sarah Silverman (no, not not that one) sells hand-drawn comic zines looking to Audrey Hepburn, Margot Tennenbaum and The Devil Wears Prada for inspiration. You can buy copies here. They'd make cute stocking stuffers at only $11 each.

Curio: Cinemadoodles

Alexa here. I'm a big fan of the doodle as an art form. In school I was often drawing in the margins of my notebooks, dreaming of a movie that helped me mentally escape class (Tony Manero was a favorite fantasy).  I also love Nathaniel's sketches, doodled in the dark while watching a movie (his Drive sketches were especially evocative). So I've had fun flipping through The Striking Viking's etsy shop. Shop owner Nick sketches movie scenes and celebrities with his left hand, and they are alternately hilarious and striking.  Makes you wish more film critics would publish their notebooks, no?
