For the Man Who Has It All...

...how about an Oscar nomination AND a baby on the same day?

Jose here, feeling complete envy of Oscar winner Javier Bardem, who had what must've been the greatest day ever yesterday.

First (although I'm not exactly sure what order it happened in...) he woke up to a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his work in Biutiful (which also got nominated for Best Foreign Language Film) and then, after making Julia Roberts' life even more perfect than it was when Denzel won in '01, Javier welcomed a baby boy with wife Penélope Cruz.

The baby was rumored to be born yesterday in Los Angeles but neither of the parents has issued any sort of statement. The one thing Javier did say to a magazine was:

We value our privacy. For us it's difficult to appear in public, even though we're both used to being the subjects of much attention in Spain...but it's OK. We have a good life.

I bet they do!
The Oscar winners are arguably some of the best working actors and because of that I say, give this baby an honorary Oscar now!
But while we wait for more news about Baby Bardem-Cruz, let us speculate on what will become of him.Besides being the handsomest man alive, will he enter showbiz like his proud parents? Will he be featured on the cover of every magazine like the Pitt-Jolies or will he join the rank of the private babies like the Paltrow-Martins?
For now, we can wonder who will babysit him the night of February 27th when his parents attend the Oscars.

Speaking of which, do you think his dad has any chance of winning the award?

Is there any other oscar-winning couple currently living???

January 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMadiezga

Ok, I just thought of another one: Douglas-ZetaJones

January 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMadiezga

Madiezega: No. Does the dad have a chance of winning? No. Three reasons: 1. Bardem already has a statue. 2. There's Colin Firth's momentum. 3. If that momentum doesn't give Firth the Oscar win for whatever bleeping reason, then the trophy is Eisenberg's. (I only say this because giving it to Franco would look extremely tacky, as he is the host and Bridges also has one already. Here's hoping no one pulls multiples from here on out.)

@ Madiezga: There's also Joel Coen and Frances McDormand.

Three cheers to Javier Bardem! I haven't even seen Biutiful (and given it's director, very well may hate it), but I'm glad Bardem sneaked into the Best Actor category and is now a father, to boot.

I don’t mind babysiting the baby. Bardem would go alone by himself to the Oscar. Cruz is probably too tired even a month after giving birth. So there’s a big chance that I will spend the day with her. *_*

If only papa Bardem got some push or screening here and there last month, I bet he’ll be talked about more frequently.

I think he has a chance - he's probably the biggest threat Colin Firth is going to face.

I really hope she goes to the Oscars with him. I want to see them together on the red carpet. They're such a beautiful and talented couple.

Javier/Penelope Jr. will marry one of the children of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and their child will be so beautiful he/she will glow with pure celestial light.

Cruz in '07 for "Volver"
Bardem in '08 for "No Country for Old Men"
Cruz in '09 for "Vicky Cristina Barcelona"
Cruz in '10 for "Nine"
Bardem in '11 for "Biutiful"
Cruz-Bardem in '12 for "Cruz-Bardem Birth Video"

Seems like a logical next step for this pair.

Oh, as great as it is for Cruz and Bardem, I must say it was really inappropriate of them to get pregnant 10 months before the Oscars, knowing full well that Penelope wouldn't want to go after having just given birth. It's going to be so strange not having her there. She was a fixture.

January 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGlenn

Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes? ...oh, right.
Love that pic of both of them holding their Oscars, when was that? does anyone know the context?

January 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLucky

I really hope Penelope goes with him, because I will be sitting in the bleacher seats this year and I'd love to see her! Javier's nominations was one of my favorites yesterday morning, because I thought I might be able to see Penelope, so I really hope she'll go!!

That pic is not of their oscars, it's of them after winning the Europeans Awards in 2004, Bardem- Best Actor for "The Sea Inside" and Cruz- Best Actress (Audience award) for "No te Muevas"

So this nomination makes the fifth consecutive year of a spanish actor getting nominated!!!! I'm spanish and i'm kind of proud of them.

Another Oscar-winning couple: Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh.

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

so we have

ZETA JONES & DOUGLAS
PETER JACKSON & FRAN WALSH
BARDEM & CRUZ
and
MCDORMAND & COEN

is that it? i feel like there must be another somewhere?

I wanted to add FISK & SPACEK but then remembered that Fisk lost the Oscar for there will be blood's art direciton. NOOOoooooooo. I wanted to add BENING & BEATTY and then... oh dammit!

remember when Holly Hunter was married to Janusz Kaminski, Spielberg's trusty DP?

Couples that are either not alive or not together any more:
Leigh and Olivier, Winslet and Mendes

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJames T

Their Oscars will make good baby toys.

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAndrew R.

Helen Mirren and Taylor Hackford he won for best short film in 1975

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRami

For the longest time, it was Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. :(

That picture of Bardem and Cruz is photoshopped, right?

Six Oscar nominations and two wins between the two of them, and the first and second Spainards to ever win Oscars. Crazy.

And a new baby boy! How awesome for them!

Hope they're both at the show in February.

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterIan

Nope Ian, as someone else pointed before the picture is from the 2004 European Film Awards where both won.

Here's more pictures from that ceremony

If we're including couples that divorced, don't forget Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton. He won for adapted screenplay for Sling Blade. Good ol' days.
