Truth in Advertising. FYC Ads
I had a hankering for some truth-telling. Sometimes I wish all advertising would just tell it like it is. Wrap a golden lasso 'round all marketing departments and see what bursts forth. Herewith my (photoshopped) reinterpretation of two recent FYC ads: Roger Deakins who has yet to win and Oscar and Dame Helena Bonham Carter Burton:
What fun!
If only I had time to do this for every FYC ad. How do you think this year's nominees should be advertised?
P.S. This post was inspired by The Shiznit's amusing slideshow of truth-in-advertising posters for this year's Best Picture nominees currently hosted by The Wrap since The Shiznit is down. Here are my two favorites from their photoshop fun: 127 Hours and Winter's Bone.
Though their takes on Toy Story 3 and Black Swan are also keepers.

Awesome. I totally wanted to do something like this with "The King's Speech," such as: "Some movies deserve to win Best Picture. Others don't."
The Wrap didn't do those posters, theshiznit.co.uk did.
I literally burst out laughing when i read the '127 Hours' one. LOL!
lol @ Poor People Are Depressing. The best though was def Lesbians Have Issues Too.
Is it strange to anyone else that the original Cinematography FYC ad...has no image? How does that work, exactly? Were they inspired by last year's telecast?
Loved yours! So purposefully cheeky! Hee..
And some of those at The Wrap are pretty well done, too. I loved the Toy Story 3 and The Social Network, alongside these two (I really think the Black Swan one could have been so much better done).
Meanwhile: first Oscar promo out - I'm still laughing at those final 5 seconds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DE0asLABRIo&feature=player_embedded
"Blurb whore"! And yes, Helena would be very worthy for Best Supportive Actress, but that's not the category...
The 127 Hours one was the best. Cynical commentary on what sounds like a too short, way over-edited, travesty of a film.
oooh i realized those were hard to read so i reposted them.
The Social Network and Inception parodies could have been better, but The King's Speech is a keeper, and The Kids Are All Right is also really funny.
The Toy Story 3 one is hysterical!
"You Yanks Loved 'The Queen,' Right?" and "Fuck Yeah" are priceless!
College Humor did something similar last year. This year's batch is funnier.
Imagine The Town was nominated. "The Least Oscar-y Movie Ever."
Another Year? "Did Anyone See This Movie?"
The one for "The Fighter" is the worst one; tonally and thematically, it's nothing like "The Wrestler".
SC: I know. Total dud. The Wrestler was Randy the Ram's march to death. The Fighter is "Irish" Mickey Ward coming out successful. Here's a better one: "It's Wes Anderson's Rocky."
"Poor people are depressing."
That's an awesome one for "Winter's Bone." So true!
Also liked the ones for "The King's Speech" and "True Grit." But all of them at least got a chuckle (or more) out of me.
