Mattie & Rooster ReunitedAwwwww. Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) and Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) didn't wait a quarter century to see each other again. All it took was awards season hustle and bustle.
I'm growing fonder of Jeff Bridge's Rooster weekly and I'm usually the opposite with awards season performances. Every time I see a clip of that courtroom scene I giggle.

I wish we could go back in time and give Colin Firth last year's Oscar for A Single Man so Jeff Bridges could win for Rooster, which is a more deserving performance than Bad Blake. This is why "they're due" Oscars are a bad idea.

On the subject you should keep the guy who played the defense attorney in mind for the cameo category of the Film Bitch Awards.
If Firth had won last year, he would have won again this year as well.
I'm glad it played out like it has...also because Bridges' performance in Crazy Heart was amazing.
Hailee Steinfeld continues to impress me at award shows. She also impressed me in True Grit, but not to the point that I would nominate her for an Oscar.
okay i have to understand is Hailee tall with heels on or are actors just shorter than they project themselves to be.

I haven't seen Bridges yet, but these things always happens when we think about his performances. Last year, I was a little bit upset with the make-up win for Crazy Heart, but, well, I realized it was a not just a make up win. An actor could have won for that work in his second nomination, for example. Very very fine performance - and I'm glad you were wise to see this, you gave him Silver.
Bridges is such a great actor.
It should have been for Lebowski if they were going to honour Bridges at all. A warm natural portrait of the ultimate Coen Bros. oddball. The approach shouldn't work as well it does. Kudos to the team. (Thin Red Line is a better FILM, but it has a lot of tiny supporting turns that work together to form Malick's portraiture of THE WWII SOLDIER. The amazing thing? Malick's approach doesn't feel utterly dehumanizing, even though the very practice of what he's saying SHOULD feel crushingly dehumanizing. The pretentious war film? Most definitely. But that's part of why we love Malick, just as it's part of why we loved Fellini. Pretense is fun.)
A lot of people hated that dress, but I thought it was cute.
Cal -- he really is one of the greats. He already has a Gold and a Silver from me and i've only been covering the beat for 10 years. Plenty of great stuff before that as well. I'm SO HAPPY he's having this renaissance now though I secretly hope someone casts him in something more sophisticated and glam again soon. Because when he cleans up he's also really something. He can do Man Glam. I'm eager for a great performance that's not a grizzled drunk next time.
