Lypsinka Linka
Fandor a preview of a conversation between Nick and I. This is Nick's brilliant observation that 2009 and 2010's best picture lineups have more than a little in common.
Cinematical Did you hear about this shooting at a Black Swan screening. I'm still confused about what actually happened given the way these posts are written and updated.
Scott Feinberg "Deep Vote" reveals his final Oscar ballot
Black Voices 20 Questions for Anika Noni Rose. Turns out she's really fond of the movie Mother & Child. And really glad to have been Disney's first black princess and loves the fan response.
I actually got a video from a little boy. He was three and he was bouncing on his bed singing 'All The Stars Up There' and telling his mommy, "She is my favorite princess. I'm going to marry her."
Let's wrap up.
I am a huge fan of Lypsinka and I kept meaning to mention her in connection with Black Swan. So it was really fun to read The Daily Beast's interview with John Epperson (aka Lypsinka's "hideous maid") who plays "Jaded Piano Player" in Darren Aronofsky's Best Picture nominee. Seeing Lypsinka live is SO incredible. If you ever see an advertisement for a Lypsinka show in your city you'd be wise to buy tickets. The amount of sheer mnemonic and physical skill required for her act is unreal. Imagine memorizing hours worth of dialogue that's totally unconnected to context and schizophrenically shoved together. Here's a sampling of her inimitable way with Old Hollywood sound clips.
One of my many dreams in life is to host fabulous A list Oscar parties in which I could enlist true Divas to perform. Imagine Lypsinka doing a delicious glamour-fit mix of all the diva lines (and there are lots of them this year) from Black Swan, Animal Kingdom and The Fighter! "You've done some bad things Sweetie!"

Nick's comments are hilarious and scary at the same times. Its so weird to see so many similarities between the two Best Picture lineups.
What is ever more strange is that my ranking of the Best Picture top 10 is still pretty similar. Is it bad if I tend to fall for the same genre year after year?
someone -- i can't remember who -- once pointed that out about my own top ten lists. that there was a spot for "romantic drama" and a spot for this and a spot for that and it kinda freaked me out.
Ha. I love all the different classifications, and then simply "Coen Bros." They are their own category unto themselves, aren't they?
@Pretentious yeah, do you think they'll keep it up?
hello you be obliged check this wpolscemamymocneseo
Interesting thoughts on the BP nominees, but I imagine you could find some sort of 'connection' between the BP nominees of any two years. Plus, comparing "The Kids Are All Right" and "The Blind Side" is sooooo wrong.
I think I watched that Lypsinka video 8 times and I love every second of it.
Thanks for introducing me to her. Not a single flaw! I wish I knew where all the pieces of dialogue/monologue come from. Google will help me, I hope.
James T -- my favorite bit is the NATALIE WOOD Gypsy part just cuz i ove Natalie wood so much.
Evan -- it may feel wrong but they both are "alternatively structured families" :)
"Nutso Genre Midnight Freakout" LOL
I do like the nominee typologies, even if some of them DO feel a little shoehorned in. However, I had a friend call Inception "next year's Avatar" as soon as the trailers were released, and An Education & TKS were my "posh British dramas" that I watched on Nomination Morning two years in a row, so maybe this does have a fair amount of credence to it! (Plus the Pixar & Coen noms... of course. But will it keep up for Cars 2 - and how long until the Coens' next project is out?)
And thanks for introducing me to Lipsynka, who has in a matter of minutes become my favorite person, place, or thing on this earth. That clip basically feels like someone directly took everything I love & mashed it together on YouTube. WIN.
Andreas and James T -- happy to spread the word. The best Lypsinka number is this incredible one she does with telephones. it is so out of control fast and repetitive and quickchange. and hilarious.
dear god
is this lypsinka not fantastic
love this nathaniel,
