I Dream of Deany

The flu and Oscar-frazzled headspace are a strange combination. I've been drifting in and out of consciousness since coming down with it abruptly 20+ hours ago. I woke up via a radio alarm recently and the voices were talking about the financial crisis.

My dream converted this to a bizarro panel of angry politicians, refusing to take blame. The culprit was obviously Derek Cianfrance, writer/director of Blue Valentine. His "extravagant spending on Blue Valentine has bankrupted the nation!"

Ha ha. WTF? Blue Valentine... that blockbuster so intimidatingly expensive that even James Cameron passed?

Subconcious brain you are so weird.

Blue Valentine was the most movie bang for production buck of anything the cinema gave us last year. If I weren't sick I'd throw 'The Ballad of Cindy & Dean' right back in the DVD player for a third go. Years from now nobody will ever understand how Ryan Gosling wasn't Oscar nominated alongside Michelle Williams. You gotta have the whole set, Cindy and Dean.

Love that movie!

I heartily agree. Arguably the best film of the year. It's very nice to find out it has made money as well, I didn't expect that :-)

For my money, best picture, actor, and actress of the year! If I had to choose, I would choose Michelle's performance over Ryan's, but partly because she had the even better part. I can't wait for their next projects.

my post oscar night dream was that James Franco and I were friends, but then he wanted to show me his barn. naturally he showed it to me in the middle of the night and far off in the country and he tried to kill me. it was like a mash-up dream of Catfish and James Franco's creepiness.

My oscar morning dream included finding out Javier Bardem and Jacki Weaver(!!!) won. Waking up and jumping on imdb was such a downer.

Oh wow. Somebody needs a break from Oscar Fever, lol.

I can't decide whether I liked Social Network or Blue Valentine more, but those were far and away my two top films of the year.

I couldn't agree with you more, Ryan. Blue Valentine was my top pick for 2010. And yes, you need the set, both Williams AND Gosling. IMHO, I thought Gosling played the more complicated, compelling character.

Weird. I had a dream about Jesse Eisenberg last night. Since it gets an NC-17, I'll censor the details.
