Reader Spotlight: Ziyad
In this Reader Appreciation series we're getting to know the Film Experience community, one person at a time ;) Today's interviewee is Ziyad who was born in Barcelona and is currently in Tel Aviv. He's truly international.
So let's jump right in.
Nathaniel: Do you remember your first filmgoing experience?
ZIYAD: Beauty and the Beast, I was 5 years old, the whole family (my parents and 2 brothers) went to a late showing, I fell asleep after 5 minutes and I woke up after in the ending credits, I got so pissed they didn't wake me so I forced my parents to take me again the next day.
Dedication. I love it. When did you start reading?
Around September 2004, I was checking if Javier Bardem had a chance at getting nominated for The Sea Inside, I loved the "actressexuality", bookmarked it instantaneously and since then visited on a daily basis. My favorite part: Film Bitch Awards -- I owe you copyrights for doing my own with your extra categories as well, EVERY YEAR, the difference is that I do it for myself and have no place to share it.
Julianne Moore, she is my goddess, my face glows by just seeing her, in anything; Meryl Streep... "She could play Batman and be the right choice"; And a tie between Carmen Maura, Hiam Abbass, Susan Sarandon, Bette Davis, and Kate Winslet. SORRY! Right now Emma Stone is everything to me. Every time I watch Easy A I fall a little bit more in love with her.
I'm horrible at following orders.
Take one Oscar away from something and give it to something else.
I'm going to have to do two. I take Angelina Jolie's Oscar for Girl, Interrupted and give it to Julianne Moore for Magnolia (god, it HURTS physically that she wasn't even nominated). I think I could take every Oscar and give it to Julianne Moore.
The second one, is actually a movie... I would take A Beautiful Mind's and give it to Amelie. Best Movie Ever.
The Godfather Trilogy. I'm just lazy.

This feature has slowly beoame one of my favorites on TFE. Fascinating reading about fellow readers.
And yes, Julianne Moore is the one actress I can think of that is constantly on the cusp of getting a nomination every year. ('Kids... Alright', 'A Single Man, beforementioned 'Magnolia', heck even her cameo in 'Children of Men' was kinda awesome).
Peter -- 1999 was so good for supporting actress but i do wonder how close she came or if AMPAS just didn't get Magnolia? I mean the Tom Cruise nomination might have happened even if they hated the movie in a way. Big star playing against type.
She could play Batman and be the right choice.
hah!
I think you just described the way Hollywood (and probably the world in general) sees Meryl: as the right choice for everything...
other than that I pretty much agree with everything this cutie had to say...
Right right right I keep saying that, Julianne deserves a nomination for Magnolia and especially for A Single Man. I love that movie and her role was f*cking iconic.
Nataniel, if you're ever going to start a new series of 'Hit me with your best shot' pick A Single Man, I swear every scene in that movie is like a painting.
And Amelie is a great movie, loved it, it's also a very popular and well known movie in Holland. Gotta love it simply for the brilliant score.
The reveal of Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford made me believe she should be cast as The Joker in any subsequent Batman movie that uses him.
Loving this series.
Also, just noticed I am the featured comment. Haha. I do enjoy(?) some of Von Trier's films, but I do think it's sort of funny that he's built up to a film about the world being destroyed.
Ha! I love the Modern Family Meryl Streep Batman reference. Cam is hilarious.
Ugh, it's sickening ("SICKENING") how good Goddess Julianne is in Magnolia. I've aways suspected she might've been a close 6th/7th. That category was tough that year and it's sad that it went to the most blowhard performance. Ugh, Academy, you never learn.
I have never seen the second and third Godfather movies, I join him partly in that.
YAY! Modern Family reference :D
Right there with you about Julianne. Gah, Magnolia and A Single Man years (and Safe) were the worst. I would give her all the Oscars if I could too.
I love this series, Nathaniel :) love to know a bit more about the readers :D
it’s killing me softly everytime somebody mentions Julianne Moore and Oscar.
for everyone who adores and admires Julianne Moore, even you Ziyad in Tel Aviv *imaginary jumping high five"
First of all, thanks Nate!
Loving all the Moore love here, if there's a god, that probably she. As well the Modern Family love.
Fernando: Thank you! :-)
Nina: Yes, she should have been nominated for A Single Man, as well for The Kids Are All Right. She's been snubbed for 2 years in a row now... Blah!
Mikhael: imaginary jumping high five!
By the way, that was me.
