Julianne Moore, You Betcha!

Look, it's Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin ☛

I fear my immense warm love for Julianne colliding with my enormous cool hatred of Palin will cause inner tornadoes! Isn't that how it works? Or perhaps these two poles of feeling will just cancel each other out until I feel absolutely nothing while watching Game Change.

Sarah Palin has so many catch phrases and behavioral quirks that it's difficult to imagine someone portraying her without resorting to caricature mimicry but good luck, Julianne.

The cast for Game Change, which we had some fun casting ourselves, is coming together. Julianne's partner in endless Oscar losses Ed Harris, will lose the presidency with her as John McCain. But what about her kids? Relatively unknown Kevin Bigley will play Track and Melissa Farman (Temple Grandin) will play Bristol. No word on the Obamas, Clintons or Edwards yet but production starts next week. This is from Recount's writer (Buffy alum Danny Strong) and director (Jay Roach)so if you liked that one...

Are you more or less excited for this project now gazing upon this photo? Do Emmy Awards await?

She's going to get the first award(s) of her career outside theatre engagements.

SAG, EMMY, GG -- this can only help her come Oscar time in the furture if she can get that 5th nomination?

I hope Moore and Harris can finally win some awards (I know Harris has at least won SOME awards but still). It's just sad that they have to relocate to television to get back into the award conversation.

Sounds like the film's focusing on McCain/Palin, but a cameo by Spacey as Huckabee would be perfect.

Mrs. Kidman is in trouble now.

I liked the book enough, but I do wonder if we're going to get Palin overkill. I like Julianne, and playing out all of Palin's weird antics from the book will be interesting, but I really don't want to see Track and Bristol having large enough roles that we're talking about them this early. The Obama, Clinton, and Edwards stuff is way more interesting; Palin is a joke I've heard too many times already.

matt- I think that EVERY time i see huckabee's face somewhere. Isn't Spacey just so rightly cut out to play him in something?

and how sad is it gonna be if someone else comes along and robs Julianne of TV awards? even if she's caught in mimicry traps, i still want her to win just for her career.

p.s. and i know how hypocritical that sounds given that i always bitch about career type oscars, but Julianne is the only case where i'll forgive that.

I'm really SCARED by this film though I normally love everything (everything) Julianne does!!!

April 27, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterme saying hallo

Wow Julianne looks better in the Palin get-up than I was expecting. When is this supposed to air?

April 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterHolly French

It would be kind of funny in a sad way if Nicole beat Julianne at the Emmys as well.

I was a big fan of Recount so I'm looking forward to this, but like Nathaniel said, it'll be really hard to actually see anything other than a caricature. That picture isn't helping.

The character she's playing is a caricature.

Meryl Streep has a freedom we wish all of her favorite actresses have unless of course your favorite actress is Meryl Streep.

Jay Roach will direct it as a farse.

I don't see Julianne and Ed accepting this project with the intention of gloryfing the character.

April 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPeggy Sue

Ugh, I hate Sarah Palin so much, but I hope it brings Julianne success.

April 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPhilip

Bad choice role for Moore, but she is not the great actress many on your blog think... so it is not surprising that she would take a role suchas this to exploit her own gains.

April 27, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterrick

Rick, that's some insightful stuff, there

I thought this was weird casting, but she looks spot-on. HFPA will probably go for Kidman no matter what, but Julianne could win the Emmy and SAG.

The prospect of her winning a televised award is delicious!

I'm hoping, at the very least, that they show differences between Palin's public persona and her private one. Even if it does not exist in real life, it's needed.

She is clearly ruthless politically and very determined. I hope the script shows us those moments, and not just the "that's palin being dumb palin" moments we always see.

April 28, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJoe

I don't know if this picture works for me, because I'm like "Awww, Julianne Moore", whereas otherwise I'd be thinking "Uh, Sarah Palin". I find it hard to accept her casting, because when I see a pic of her dressed up as Sarah Palin, she still has that radiance of actually possessing a human soul all around her, which totally ruins the illusion.

April 28, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterChris

Never expected this but she actually looks like Palin and I think she's a great choice. Let's hope this movie will not disappoint.
I call an Emmy, SAG & GG!

April 28, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterNina

Candace Bergen from (Murphy Brown, MIss Congeniality) would make the PERFECT Hillary Clinton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

April 28, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterWendy Kroy

As a non-American reader, for me Palin is just a Tina Fey impersonation of someone who's as relevant in politics as... Paris Hilton is in the movie business. Why making a movie about that? Hollywood inextricable ways. I just know I won't pay (=make any single effort) to see this. Even if Pfeiffer was in it I wouldn't see it. I don't want to glorify mediocre crap by action or omission. At least Thatcher was (infamously) relevant in the 80s.
