Congratulations to the Critics Choice TV Winners

In progress now but I'm about to leave for a Cars 2 screening -- Vroom Vroom (and wish me luck) -- so I won't know the rest of the winners till later. John Noble (Fringe) won Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Margo Martindale (Justified) and Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) tied for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and Jon Hamm won Best Actor in a Drama (Mad Men)

The reporters ask Margo about Paris Je T'Aime and it was clear from both the question and the response that that particular gig (courtesy of Alexander Payne) has been fruitful and meaningful for fans and the actress herself.

you can follow a live stream backstage here. My friend Roberta of Basket of Kisses / Mad Men fandom fame, just asked Christina a question!

UPDATE: Here are the winners

  • BEST DRAMA Mad Men
  • BEST COMEDY Modern Family
  • BEST ACTRESS, DRAMA Juliana Marguiles, The Good Wife
  • BEST ACTOR, DRAMA Jon Hamm, Mad Men
  • BEST ACTRESS, COMEDY Tina Fey, 30 Rock
  • BEST ACTOR, COMEDY Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
  • BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS, DRAMA (tie) Christina Hendricks, Mad Men & Margo Martindale, Justified
  • BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR, DRAMA John Noble, Fringe
  • BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS, COMEDY Busy Phillips, Cougar Town
  • BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR, COMEDY Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother
  • BEST TALK SHOW The Daily Show
  • BEST REALITY SHOW Hoarders
  • BEST REALITY SHOW HOST Mike Rowe, Dirty Jobs

This list of winners tells us that the new offshoot of the BFCA is much less concerned about "predicting" the Emmys than the film branch is to predicting the Oscars. Nice to see, don't you think?

Anyway... Ohmygod, I love that scene in Paris Je T'Aime so much and now it's all I can think of so let's watch it again.

Payne, je l'aime.

Margo Martindale FUCK YEAH!

Ahem . . . I mean . . . I approve of this decision.

Exciting list of winners overall. I can't find one I can disagree with.

Jon Hamm, Julianna Margulies, Margo Martindale/Christina Hendricks, John Noble in Drama. I wouldn't mind every one of these repeating at the Emmys although I fear the last two (Martindale and Noble) won't even get nominated and Hamm will lose to undeserving Buscemi. I'd love for Panjabi to have won instead of Hendricks (who I also think it's very good but since Hamm + Mad Men were winners too... it wasn't really necessary).

Jim Parsons (of course the Emmy will go to Carell since it's his final season but since the CCTA don't have to acknowledge for the 5 Emmy losses I'm glad the best of the field won), Busy Phillips, Tina Fey (Laura Linney will win the Emmy of course but Fey - or POEHLER, who should've won - are the true commediennes of the bunch so it was a worthy win) and Neil Patrick Harris (Modern Family was a big loser here; at least it got the top prize - and will win at the Emmys here too if Chris Colfer lets'em).

All in all it was a good selection - and a much-needed tonic for MAD MEN in these Boardwalk Empire "behemoth" days (who is not at all Emmy worthy - if it wasn't for Winter/Scorcese it'd never even be nominated; so boring).

This seriously had better be Hamm's year at the Emmys, with Cranston out of the way. It's absurd he hasn't won yet.

BUSY PHILLIPPS YAY! Cougar Town is seriously the most underrated Comedy on Television. The rest of the awards are not bad too, but I'm not a big Drama watcher so I have no opinion on most of those categories.

If only Amy Poehler or Courteney Cox could have taken that Best Actress in a Comedy trophy away from Tina....

Derek - amen about COUGAR TOWN. I'm trying to change the opinion of everyone I know about this show. Bill Lawrence sure is regretting the decision of naming it as if the show was only about a horny forty-year-old woman on the hunt.

Like Community, it's SO much more. By the way, Nathaniel, a 'COMMUNITY @ THE MOVIES' feature would be interesting, with its several episodes dedicated to movies in particular and a lot of quick references by the show's characters in each episode.

Derek - and I understand why they picked Tina. 30 ROCK is supposed to end next year and this way - her being the oldest competitor of the bunch - would be one of the last shots for her to win a CCTA.

Amy and Linney will win eventually; and so will Courteney if COUGAR TOWN (hopefully) lasts.

It's a nice list but I expected of the critics to think outside the box. I love Tina Fey but seriously she already has about a thousand awards for her performance.
I'm glad that Busy Phillips and NPH won awards.
Still waiting for the recognition Courteney deserves!

Yay Busy Phillips, Cougar Town is my fave comedy atm. Not too sur bout Fey. I love her of course, but does she really need another acting award, when she's not eally the best actress there...give her all the writer's awards in the world though.

That's interesting that you wrote that they are "much less concerned about "predicting" the Emmys" as I was thinking quite the opposite when I read the winners list (I think with their exciting nominees the results were rather boring). And I hoped for the Justified-Men. But Busy Phillips, yeah!

June 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterIvonne

Ivonne -- well, i can't imagine this winners list reflecting the emmys that much (other than best drama/best comedy) i mean will the emmys really give tina fey ANOTHER win? and i can't imagine mad men ever winning acting prizes at the emmys... just because they have been so wierdly withholding. and john noble for fringe and NPH who has never won at the emmys.

anyways, perhaps i'm wrong. maybe they're trying to predict NEW emmy trends and continued ones simultaneously.

Brooooooke - agreed. Love Tina Fey but her acting is not why everyone loves that show. If you want fully formed character acting within your comedy I think this has to go to Amy Poehler, yes?

I certainly wish the television academy was as eager to reward the acting in "Mad Men" as other organizations are. I still can't comprehend how the show has managed to win multiple awards for series, writing, and directing yet not the performances, which are almost always uniformly excellent. Where does the disconnect lie?

Sidebar -- I recently saw Christina Hendricks in the New York Philharmonic's concert staging of "Company" (at the movies, not the actual performance), and can say unequivocally that she is my new hero. Should her tenure on "Mad Men" ever come to an end, Broadway would be crazy not to welcome her with open arms.

Yeah, so happy that Julianna Margulies won. The Good Wife is probably the best drama on TV right now and that cast is amazing, from the Lead Actors to the Guest Performances.
And congrats too Busy Philips too. Cougar Town is my guilty pleasure.

Margo Martindale SUCH a great character actress. (I'm glad you singled her out for her part of Paris Je'Taime, because it's probably my favorite part of the whole movie.) Although I haven't seen Justified, I'm really glad she's finally getting awards recognition for her work and efforts. Maybe the Emmys will be next!

If you ever have a chance I would love to see a post on how to get started learning to use rollers. I have been using a cycleops for the past year and just got a hand me down set of rollers. I'm not sure how to determine the correct length of the base. I have no idea how to get going or how to make the best use of this very cool seeming tool. I clearly have a long ways to go on my balance...

One more Cougar Town fan here!

I love that Margo Martindale performance in Paris je'Taime SO MUCH.

No love for The Big C?

Margo, Je T'aime.

That is all. (Well, except for Lady and Bumper, who I also love.)

I just rewatched that scene from Paris J'Taime - beautifully played out.

Recently saw the New York version - hmmmm, not so good!
