True Blood in Five Minutes

When I polled y'all about whether or not we should review True Blood Season 4 as it airs, and though the response was tepid in terms of button clicking it was "yay" in terms of coverage so we'll try it out. If response is good we'll keep going. If not, we dump. Every other film site seems to cover more and more TV [TANGENT: the worlds continue to converge though not, I should add, as they should: put the franchises on TV where no beginnings, middle and ends are appropriate and not in the cinema where you're supposed to tell a full story, damnit! [/TANGENT] and we gotta keep up or lose market share.

So before Season 4 begins next week, a quick recap of the first three seasons courtesy of HBO

For those who care about existing predispositions my favorite human is Jason (Ryan Kwanten being the show's acting MVP... and the least likely to ever be nominated for it), my favorite vampire is Pam (Kristin Bauer), my favorite eye candy is Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) and my favorite CGI creation is Joe Manganiello (as "Alcides) who cannot possibly be a real human actor considering that superhero body that makes Ryan Reynolds look like a gym slacker. I go back and forth on the quality of virtually everyone and everything in this show but I find it addictive and admire its looney commitment to all caps acting and total trashiness.

lol at cgi creation. I'm so happy you are covering this show, it's so good.

I vote Alexander Skarsgård for acting MVP! The first half of season 3 didn’t really grab me (even though I’m fairly addicted to the show), what kept me watching was Erics love for Sookie and his lust for vengeance, both beautifully played imo.

My least favourite character is Tara. I hope she leaves town for a good long while, and if not, I hope we get to see the Tara from her very first scene at the general store again.

"Ryan Kwanten being the show's acting MVP... and the least likely to ever be nominated for it"
Because he's pretty. Is it shocking that in this day and age pretty women who do great work are more likely to win awards but pretty men who do great work are still seen as just a pretty face? Or does it only seem that way? I'm pretty sure that the only person ever recognized for their acting work on this show is Anna Paquin, who also happens to be the only cast member who had acting pedigree going into it (Oscar winner, baby!), but all the other cast members are just seen as pretty faces (although I find Stephen Moyer particularly wooden most of the time - that being when someone isn't have sex dreams about him) when each of them have actually done very solid work at building their characters. (/Rant) Glad you'll be featuring the show. I just love it!

I like Kwanten. He's second or third as far as acting MVP goes, for me the best in show is Trammell who I'm always surprised is rarely brought up when the actors are spoken of.

Wow. Jason is actually some viewers' favorite? I find the character extremely annoying.

This may be a guilty pleasure type show but I find the acting anything but. The cast is consistent. Their funny when they need to be, touching when they need to be...they're among my favorite ensembles on television. I'm not surprised that a handful of them are Juilliard alum. If I had an Emmy ballot Kwanten (agreed he's the MVP; agreed @denny, too), Woll, and Van Straten would have my votes.

Oh, and of course Denis O'Hare.

I completely agree with all your predispositions. Had to giggle at CGI creation Joe- ha! But what does MVP mean? I was thinking about waiting till the end of the season and watching the whole series in a row, but with you covering the show I'll watch it instantely. I love your writing.
