Team Experience: Queue Confessions
For this week's TFE contributors roundup, I thought I'd force a confession... but alas, I didn't manage to catch anything that embarrassed anyone, damnit! Except myself! My queue is stupid
WHAT'S NEXT ON YOUR DVD QUEUE?
Jose: The Red Shoes and the first four seasons of "Doc Martin" which I have to review for work.
JA: Simon Rumley's terrifically unsettling Red White and Blue which unsettled me, terrifically, last year and Undertow, that Peruvian movie which I think you interviewed the director. [Editor's Note: Yes, yes, I did.]
Alexa (Curio): I'm really, really going to watch them when I'm not chasing my toddler or passing out: Gloria (John Cassavetes' film, not the one with Sharon Stone! This is a re-watch, I just like it) and Reform School Girls (the one with Wendy O Williams from 1986).
Robert (Distant Relatives): First up is The Circus, the only Chaplin silent comedy I haven't seen. It keeps coming back up and I keep bumping it back down because quite frankly, if I watch it then I'll never have the possibility of new Chaplin comedy in my life. Then Soylent Green, part of the wife's ongoing attempt to school me in good sci-fi I've been too dismissive of.
Craig (Take Three): Lined up I have Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny And Girly (A wealthy clan kidnap bums and hippies and forces them to participate in an elaborate role-playing game in which they are the perfect family; those who refuse or attempt escape are ritualistically murdered) and pre-Ghostbusting Ivan Reitman's 1973 flick Cannibal Girls (A young couple spend the night in a restaurant, only to find out that it is haunted by three dead women who hunger for human flesh). So it's business as usual in my DVD player!
Michael (Unsung Heroes): First up is Let Me In. I'm caving on my anti-remake indignation and giving it a chance. After that is The Falcon and The Snowman. I've heard good things.
As for me, Nathaniel, I shall also confess. Next up for me is Dark Habits (Almodóvar) and uh... Ron Howard's The Dilemma.
WAIT. WHAT???
I think what happened was I starting this thing a few months ago where I started "saving" new releases thinking I would rent EVERYTHING that came out in 2011 and do some stupid little visual thing with it once they came out on DVD -- even if I didn't watch them -- and now I am realizing this means it is coming to my house, this Ron Howard movie with Kevin James.
NOOOooooOOOooooooo
What's up next in your DVD queues???
No cheating, people. CONFESS!

On my DVD Queue, I have Somewhere up next as I've been looking forward to rewatching it since I last saw it, and on Instant I have Man on Wire coming up next!
Gregg Araki's KABOOM and then BURIED starring Ryan Reynolds.
Gregg Araki's KABOOM and then BURIED starring Ryan Reynolds.
Next up is Frontier(s), which I've already watched twice. I don't know why I put it back on the Queue. Very strange. I don't mind watching it again, but now I know I had an article idea that is MIA.
Well I've had "Maya Deren: Experimental Films" sitting here for a month (I'm on the 1 at a time plan) but I have only watched a few minutes because I never remember until I'm getting ready to go to sleep. It's too creepy for me to watch before bed, I tried. The next 2 titles in my DVD queue are Cougars, Inc. (I'm not embarrassed, I love this type of thing. Plus Kyle Gallner, yum!) and Mozart and the Whale. The first 2 in my instant queue are Louis C.K.: Chewed Up and Stone.
Strange! I have had Gloria (circa 1980) in its envelope for weeks now with every intention to watch it! Guess I should take this as a sign and an opportunity...
-Undertow
-butterfield 8
byutimmie --OOOH. you shall enjoy that double feature i think.
luke -- i have never seen it *hides*
Ryan T -- thanks for the reminder actually. can't believe i forgot to catch Kaboom at all.
I have Grave of the Fireflies at home now, and Singin' in the Rain is at the top of my queue.
I just got Bringing Up Baby and Rebel Without A Cause from netflix, so I guess it shall be a classic movie weekend
Mike -- egads. don't change the order. you've got the most depressing and the happiest movies of all time right there.
Terence -- you will have the best movie weekend of anyone on the planet.
rewatching Terrence Malick's The New World in preparation for the Toronto release of his new film and the i have Suddenly (1954 film starring Frank Sinatra)
Man on Wire is wonderful!!
I just want to say, one more time, that Gena Rowlands may be the best actress of all time.
Little Miss Sunshine
The Flight of the Concords - Season 2
Paris, Texas
Cal -- its funny. I hear that and the other one of the GREATS that I know I'm weak on in terms of viewing is Jeanne Moreau. Must carve out more time for both.
I think I'll have a fine weekend: John Cameron Mitchell's 'Shortbus' and Jacques Tati's 'Mon Oncle' are two recently-acquired DVDs I've yet to unwrap.
Plus: I'm off to the cinema tomorrow to watch David Schwimmer's 'Trust'. Any thoughts on that one?
Let's see... Blue Valentine and Heartburn. ...There must be a connection there, right?
"The Stunt Man", "Another Year" - both out next Tuesday - and then Disc one of "Childrens Hospital".
1. "I Saw the Devil"
2. "No Skin off My Ass"
3. "Super 8 /12"
4. "Yentl" (!!!)
5. "L'avventura"
Very... eclectic. I usually have some recent title or shlocky '80s horror so you've caught me on a particularly cinepheliac day.
Glenn -- 'no skin off my ass' is so worth a look! and my 80s self loves Yentl muchly.
I just saw the Tarkovsky Solaris on the gorgeous Criterion blu ray that I blind bought (The film absolutely floored my by the way and won't get out of my head), so at the top of my queue are the Soderbergh Solaris since I'm intrigued to see how it works as I know several people that consider it a worthwhile remake ,as well a severely underrated standalone work.
Then I have Harold and Maude next in line as I've never watched it all the way through.
@Alice Good to hear! I'm very much looking forward to seeing it =)
@D Thank you for reminding me about Another Year! I completely forgot about wanting to see it, and didn't realize it's coming out on DVD so soon. We just got a new 46" HDTV and a Blu-ray player...so I'm looking forward to using it ; )
Biutiful and The Runaways... I was inspired to queue up The Runaways because it was nominated for a few Film Bitch awards!
BTW, I just watched The Dilemma...Noni comes out looking real good...watch out for her diner scene...she's back!
Nat, I have a similarly sad admittance. Next for me is Just Go With It. But I love Nic Kidman so hopefully she saves me. Secondly, I have Affliction, the 98 Paul Schrader film. After watching The Thin Red Line last week for the first time, I really wanted to see more Nick Nolte. So we'll see.
drew -- if you want good nick nolte DEFINITELY see cape fear if you haven't already.
sosueme --ooh. let me know what you think.
THX 1138 AND Queen Margot (the Isabelle Adjani one)
For Nick Nolte fans: Oliver Assayas' Clean. It's not only Cheung's show. it's Nolte's best performance ever.
Jorge-I saw Shortbus a few years ago, and it was awesome :) I think you'll like it
SoSueMe-I was really impressed by the performances by Dakota Fanning, Kristen Stewart, and Michael Shannon in The Runaways, and I thought the musical performances were great.
I don't have Netflix, but the next movies I'm planning to watch from my video store are Training Day, Dances With Wolves, Another Year, Incindes, and Barney's Version.
:S mine are
Faithful - Cher and Chazz Palminteri. Haven't seen this for a bit and i love Cher, this movie is so under rated. Cher refuses to acknowledge it, but the fans seem to love it.
and THE LITTLE MERMAID - swear i watch this every 8 weeks.
i really want to watch the Runaways but haven't had the chance to get around to it. so for now..those two will be watched in the next few days
Curtis -- I LOVE THAT MOVIE. Queen Margot. I can't believe I've never written about it. Must correct that.
I change my queues so often on netflix, that I may rearrange in the next few days if I get bored. Right now I just got Trois Couleurs: Blue (AMAZING) and Through a Glass Darkly, which I haven't watched yet.
Next up are Crash (the David Cronenberg film) and Aguirre: Wrath of God.
On Instant, I believe the next two are Carnival of Souls (I've heard it's so tacky, yet creepy) and Rashomon.
And I second all the Gena Rowlands love. She's one of the most underrated and underused actresses ever...honest to god her perf in A Woman Under the Influence may be the greatest performance I've ever seen captured on film. And Opening Night is extraordinary, too.
Whoa - I just got the Cassavetes GLORIA from Netflix the other day!
Next up is Russian Ark (which I can't believe I've never seen!) and Love and Other Drugs. I suspect with the latter I'm going to just fast forward to the naughty parts.
I haven't been renting DVDs in a while because I have taped so much probably cool stuff that was on TV on my hard disk that I never have the time to watch: Sicko, Monster's Ball, American Psycho, Wild at Heart and many episodes of Twin Peaks
"Diary of a Lost Girl" with the incredible Louise Brooks, directed by F. W. Murnau. Is Brooks quite possibly the best actress from the silent screen era? Maybe so, based on this performance and "Pandora's Box".
