Friday Night Links
Don't mind me. I'm just weeping over here in the corner that my beloved Friday Night Lights is no more. The end of that 'Texas Forever' era ended the same day as a certain record breaking pop culture phenomenon but if you ask me Tammy & Coach & Riggins & Dillon were where the true magic was at. While I dab at my leaky eyeballs, enjoy these articles...

Art of the Title Sequence investigates the nominees for "Outstanding Main Title Design". I'm rooting for Game of Thrones but I'm perplexed as to how Boardwalk Empire is eligible. Doesn't this Emmy race cover its second season?
Critical Condition Mark & Joe discuss the Emmy nominees. They funny.
The Wrap I'm finding all this news about Glee Season 3 departures to be very odd. High School series often have problems with people graduating so EASY FIX: Stagger your cast a little bit to include freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. It's not like a story about Glee clubs needs everyone to be in the same year. Why do TV shows keep making this mistake? The solution is so simple. In other words do it like Friday Night Lights. ;)

Finally, check out the Rufus Wainwright Timeline a really cool interactive feature created by fans that details his whole life and career. I had totally forgotten about that "Across the Universe" video he made with Dakota Fanning. Ha. This is way better than a Wikipedia entry. (hat tip to Arjan Writes)

it's only had one season
Yep, "Boardwalk Empire" has only been on for one season. Honestly, I think the titles for "Boardwalk Empire" are the only bad ones I've ever seen on an HBO show (and I otherwise absolutely adore "Boardwalk Empire"). They lack the amazing imagery of the "Game of Thrones" and "True Blood" titles, and the whole "bottles washing up on shore" thing is just way too on the nose.
Rooting for "Game of Thrones" or "Rubicon." Really surprised not to see "The Walking Dead" nominated. That show left a lot to be desired, of course, but I thought the titles were great.
curious. i coulda sworn it had already been winning awards for awhile. (boardwalk)
Liz -- now that you mention it. i don't much like the show but the titles are amazing (walking dead)
I'm also rooting for 'Rubicon'. Such a clever main title.
One I was expecting to be nominated and wasn't was 'The Borgias', whose main title was absolutely gorgeous (the opposite can be said of the series, so boring and stale).
I still can't understand how last year 'Temple Grandin' beat 'The Pacific'.
And I love the main title of 'United States of Tara' but really is it better than 'True Blood''s? I don't think so. At least 2007 and 2008 they got it right: 'Mad Men' and 'Dexter'.
Correction: it wasn't 'Temple Grandin' but 'Bored to Death' than won last year.
Glee should just retire McKinley High after its leads graduate and follow them on their career trajectories. I'd watch that.
Colin -- I hear they are planning a spin-off with Kurt and Rachel in New York.
Glee should just retire.
Still gutted that Friday Night Lights is no more. Texas forever.
Do people not know how hot Andrew Garfield is?? Who are these crazy crazy people???
If there was any class in television, Glee would end next season. But of course they will extend it and ruin it's legacy.
