How Vintage! Natalie, Jane, Mike & Julie At Roddy's Place!

Thanks to Matt @ Boy Culture for pointing this abso-wow home movie out. A friend of the late actor Roddy McDowall has uploaded silent movies from the prominent social butterfly's beach house.

This one features Natalie Wood, Mike Nichols, Julie Andrews with toddler... (I hear that's Jane Fonda sticking her tongue out? But I maybe wouldn't have recognized her given the sunglasses and that she's SO young)

I'm not crazy. This is Elaine May with Mike Nichols, right? The timing would be right.

See how many other stars you can spot. (This reminded me of a certain Hollywood socializing passage during the Bonnie & Clyde chapters of "Pictures at a Revolution" and damnit, now I'm going to have to read that all over again.)

This video is rather kind of almost no totally jawdropping.

In this second one Jane Fonda (again sticking her tongue out -- what's that about?) and Julie Andrews (playing with her kids) are more prominent and this time Jane is unmistakably Jane. Plus Ruth Gordon even makes an appearance. Yay, Ruth Gordon.

There are more of these videos at soapbxprod's youtube channel. These videos are such a scrapbook of who's who in 1960s Hollywood.

it's never occurred to me before but how fabulous would it be to have mary poppins/maria von trapp as your mother?

she's practically perfect in every way.

The way Jane sits on that chair..
The way Jane holds that ciggarrette..
She's so ordinary...not!

Wow! Thanks!
Jane looks like Bridget in Jackie Brown.

Love this one. Paul Newman in white swimming trunks!!

And at the end of this one (7:52), it seems as if the cameraman wanted to give Bacall and Newman some privacy. 0_0

I swear, Natalie Wood could be transported out of that video and into today's Hollywood with no problem.

Fantastic find! How weird am I that I was most excited to see Garson Kanin? I'm a huge fan of his film work and also of his books on Hepburn and Tracy and his early days in Hollywood. And, he was married to Ruth Gordon. Awesome!

I will double check later, but I think Troy Donahue is there. There's Hope Lange and for a second Don Murray (her husband at the time). And is that Sally Kellerman sitting and turning to the camera? More to come if I recogniza anybody else. Can somebody confirm Troy Donahue?

AR -- i didn't know that. but i'm sure there are other famous folks in this but given their youth and the sunglasses and casual non movie lit settings i think it's hard to place everyone. but i'm sure there are more than the ones i named.

Nathaniel,

Thanks so much for these precious home movies ... I loved Natalie Wood and enjoyed going to the you tube to see the additional footage of the stars and Nat!!!

I agree with Bia and have always thought that Natalie was such a trend setter that she looks to fit in in any age

That's definitely Sally Kellerman. I recognized her right away.

I immediately thought Bridget-Fonda-in-Jackie-Brown when I saw Jane. Maybe Bridge modeled her Melanie character on young Jane? Think about it...

@Marcos - Good call on Hope Lange, but I don't think that's Don Murray with her. (They were divorced -- and she already was remarried to Alan J. Pakula -- by '65.)

I actually think the dark-haired gentleman may be Jay Sebring, the über famous/well-connected hair stylist to the stars who, incidentally, was murdered by the Manson family, along with Sharon Tate. (Speaking of, Tate may have been Sebring's pre-Polanski girlfriend at this time. Hmm...)

Thanks Marenko. You are absolutely right. The guy's profile deceived me and I thougt he was Murray. Now, somebody confirmed that Donahue is there with a chequered shirt (only on brief shot near a table) . Now, there's another fair-haired guy who appears in several shots, often with Fonda. I think that is James Fox, the British actor. He must have been shooting "The Chase" with Jane Fonda at the time. The film was realeased in early 1966 and Fox had a supporting role. There's a shot in particular where you can see his face very well.

wow. thanks for filling in details everyone.

i kept wondering if the actress i loved in INSIDE DAISY CLOVER was there but i wouldn't recognize her because i've only seen her in that one film "Katharine Bard" i think was her name. and since Ruth & Natalie are both there.... and it's the right time frame.

WOW. Thanks for making my day. :)

My eye was caught by the very pretty brunette who looks straight into the camera at 0.55 in the second extract. Anjanette Comer?

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterestienne64

Jesus effin Christ Jane was/is so hot. Not that I didn't know it, but still. Natalie is gorgeous too.

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKokolo

Jane was actually a year older than Natalie. Who knew?
