Michelle & Tim's 20th Anniversary Reunion

Michelle Pfeiffer and Tim Burton reunited on the set of Dark Shadows... nice visual. It only took two decades!  For reasons we've never understood since we don't hear that she's particular "difficult" or anything, Pfeiffer rarely works with directors twice. She barely even repeats co-stars (apart from, famously, Pacino & Nicholson). It's a strange thing about her career when you hold it up against other stars of her stature.

In fact, before this film with Tim Burton which opens 20 years after Batman Returns, the number of directors she's had a second round with number just two. And that number was only one up until the film before her 1000th hiatus (yeah, I'm bitter).

  • Michael Hoffman (One Fine Day and Midsummer Night's Dream)
  • Stephen Frears (Dangerous Liaisons and Chéri)

Weird, right?

I REALLY must stop posting photos about Dark Shadows (I'm sure there will be many more temptations) or I won't be able to mock other movie blogs anymore for their anti-movie / pro-marketing approach (i.e. 200,000 articles about New Movie before it arrives, 1 when it does and then it magically transforms to Old Movie And We Don't Talk About Those! But it was either Dark Shadows anticipation or New Year's Eve (groan) so, you know... what could I do? Dark Twisted Pfeiffer is way more exciting than Mall Mom Pfeiffer. (I don't know any pfans who prefers Mall Mom Pfeiffer.)

There's another photo from Dark Shadows featuring Johnny Depp doing a Nosferatu-style air grab if you must over at Empire who reported from the set

I guess you're still in denial, but New Year's Eve is also her second collaboration with our present day George Cukor, (/end of sarcasm) after Frankie & Johnny, Garry Marshall.

Isn't more rare the muse-director thing, even if more memorable? My feeling (I haven't really made a mental list) is that most actors don't work more than a couple or three times with the same director.

I'd love to see her repeating with Jonathan Demme, she was supposedly about to when she refused to do Silence of the Lambs. But I'd also like to see Demme doing something as funny and as fresh as Married to the Mob.

Your passion for Pfeiffer is inspiring as it's entertaining. I hope I find some other Michelle related items to keep a smile on your face.

Every pic I see of Pfeiffer from Dark Shadows reminds me of Pam from True Blood. It must be the hair.

ahhh in that case i'm sorry for tweeting the photo to you notice. i just got so excited when i spotted it and had to share with someone who would appreciate it. even as a Burton/HBC/Depp fan, i'm most looking forward to Pfeiffer in this one.

Like iggy said, and Garry Marshall makes four.

Maybe it's deliberate (or maybe it's just me) but Pfeiffer looks like hell in every still I've seen of her from NYE. I'll take her spectac and delicious witch goddess in Dark Shadows any day, sight unseen.

She looks like a lioness ready to pounce in that photo still.

. . . or almost sphinx-like.

As disillusioned as I have become with Burton, I think Dark Shadows could be a quirky, gothy good time. And Michelle is looking fabulous in it... as opposed to every pic or video clip I've seen of her in New Year's Day. Yuck, yuck, yuck. Did Garry Marshall go out of his way to make her look the worst of every single star in that film? Down with Mall Mom Pfeiffer. Twisted Michelle forever;)

P.S. Pam comparisons are a good thing:)
