"Critics Choice" Live Blog

We're trying 'Cover it Live' for tonight's event. We experimented yesterday and we'll see how it goes on an actual awards night. It allows a bit more interaction with any readers who are watching it as we are. I am a member of the BFCA which runs the "Critics Choice" awards though I am not in LA for the event. Sniffle. Play your violins for me people!

So that you may laugh at me during the evening -- I've never claimed to be good at predicting the BFCA prizes -- my predictions are below the live blog window.

Will you join us?

My predictions
PICTURE The Artist |  DIRECTOR - The Artist  ACTRESS -Meryl Streep (I doubt they'll risk a third "tie" for Meryl) Viola it is! |  ACTOR - George Clooney | SUPP ACTRESS - Melissa McCarthy Octavia it is! | SUPP ACTOR - Albert Brooks Christopher Plummer it is | ENSEMBLE - The Help (though if it's Bridesmaids I bet supporting actress will be Octavia Spencer instead) | YOUNG ACTOR/ACTRESS - Shailene Woodley wow, Thomas Horn. |  ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY - Midnight in Paris | ADAPTED SCREENPLAY - The Descendants nope, it's Moneyball

I can't remember which of these are presented live and which are off air...
CINEMATOGRAPHY - The Tree of Life (yes, but War Horse also won) | ART DIRECTION -  Hugo |  COSTUME DESIGN - The Artist | EDITING - The Artist nope, it was Dragon Tattoo | MAKEUP - Harry Potter | VISUAL EFFECTS - Rise of the Planet of the Apes
SOUND - Hugo nope, another one for Harry Potter | ANIMATED FEATURE - Adventures of Tintin nope it was Rango | ACTION MOVIE - Drive | COMEDY MOVIE - Bridesmaids | FOREIGN FILM - A Separation |  DOCUMENTARY - Project Nim nope it was George Harrison. They were going full Marty tonight (except for Hugo) | SONG - Life's a Happy Song | SCORE - The Artist (or maybe War Horse. Hmmmm)

Hey Nate, this might sound stupid, but do you know if the CCMA and the Golden Globes will be streamed online live?

January 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDino

Sad I won't be able to be part of the live-blogging with you guys.
It begins when in Italy is late night... =(
I'll find out the winners tomorrow... May win the best!
Enjoy the red-carpet and ceremony!

BFCA predictions?

January 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCasey Fiore

Casey -- i've added them above.

January 12, 2012 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

You wrote James Brooks instead of Albert ;)

January 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJohn

Don't think Brad will take this one? I think he might take this and Clooney might take the Globe.

I can see Cody walking away with Original. They should reward that film one way or another. Also Chastain and Pitt ftw!

I can't keep up with all these shows. Soon enough, there are going to be critics awards FOR critics awards. And then we'll have to rank those.

It's like an Oscar Synecdoche. It goes on forever.

Awesome! Looking forward to it. Can anyone tell me after how many hours it will start?

James -- what do you mean? it starts at 8 pm eastern the show and lasts until 10 pm and then VH1 repeats it.

Here's red carpet, one of the muppets songs already won

I mean that these eastern etc things confuse me so I ask after how many hours (from the time the person posts his/her response to me) the show begins show that I know the exact time in my time zone. ;)

(Though I guess I should some day learn the difference of eastern time to my one :p)

Google helped me this time. It's aroung 7pm in EST so in one hour :)

Am I the only one who's finding the new interface thing hard to keep up with? Especially if you aren't keeping your eye on it constantly, trying to find where you were when you left off is super challenging. Just feeling sort of lost. Maybe I am just ancient.

I don't really like it either. it's fun for conversation -- so maybe it'd be fun for a one topic thing to actually discuss? but not for normal blogging of the ceremony. But i felt i should experiment. !

Thanks for this Nathaniel. It was fun!
I do think that you should keep this thing but only for when you feel it's most useful.
Goodnight everyone!

January 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJames T

I agree with Nick!

January 12, 2012 | Unregistered Commentercal roth

Thanks for trying it Nathaniel! But yeah, I didn't like it all that much either. :P

January 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPhilip

it was fun, but i would fear for your sanity going forward with it

January 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDean

Finally get to see your very close-up picture. You're not too bad looking, quite handsome.

January 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterChand

Yeah, i'll go back to the other type of way for Globes & SAG. but i am going to use this for smaller features for chatting. like maybe a "breakfast with nathaniel" feature or some such on a weekend here or there.

January 12, 2012 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

I like it. It feels real. I want this for the Globes and the Oscars--there'll be so much to express on the fly.
