Finally... and taking us full circle back to famous movies of the 80s, did you hear that Peter Gabriel had a surprise for audiences in California this weekend? He brought John Cusack out on stage for "In Your Eyes"!
But it was only for a delivery. It was Gabriel and not Cusack who lifted the boombox up high to echo the actor's famous Say Anything pose.

Ahhh, Gold Derby. A man with an avatar of a stuffed bear says that Les Mis will win and, because he won a predictions contest last year, it's front-page news. Dear, dear...
But does that mean I think he's wrong? No.
Did anyone else see the Lifetime movie of Steel Magnolias last night? Queen Latifah was great but it was basically verbatim script of the original.
Evan, allegedly Snuggle4 is someone that works in the film industry and has access to early screenings and other info. Apparently, he's made on the money calls before, and if he thinks Les Miz will sweep, he must have good reasons for doing so.
For you Les Miz fans that are eagerly anticipating the film's release, here's a making of clip showing Anne, Hugh, Eddie, and Amanda singing. BTW, for those of you that thought Anne's voice was weak during the 'I dreamed a dream' song, she deliberately played it that way, citing due to the character's circumstance it was inappropriate to go for the "pretty" version.
I must admit that after watching this clip, I think Snuggle4 right. If Les Miz hits all the marks and does well, I can see it taking best picture.

If Les Mis is as good as everyone is hoping for it to be, then I still doubt that it would sweep. I'm just not sure if they're will to bequeath another directing oscar to Tom Hooper two years after his first one. What are the precedents for that?
Blinking, I know why they trust him, but there's a pretty big difference between picking the winners when everyone has seen the contenders and you can chat with voters at parties to get a sense of what they're thinking, as opposed to this where you simply have one man guessing what 6000 voters will go out of the five or six competitive films that most of those voters haven't even seen. The guy doesn't even confirm outright that he's seen the film, nor do we know whether or not he's missing one of the other major contenders. Perhaps the real stunner is the one film he hasn't seen.
Ultimately, this is reassuring to me as support for my current BP prediction, but to imply that it's something definitive by plastering it all over your website and emails as a "news story" seems a little overblown.

Evan, I hear you. We don't know what Snuggle4 has or hasn't seen. He's playing coy and/or just playing it smart and not confirming if he actually saw Les Miz. I imagine that a rough cut near finished version was screened to some high level execs - of which he might be one of them! He could likely be protecting his identity and job by not revealing too much about how he has access to insider knowledge. Such screenings are probably quite restricted, with only a limited number of people actually having access. If private info leaked out, it would be a simple process of elimination in an investigation to find the culprit squealer.
Anyway, anything's possible. There's a slew of films that have yet to be released, and anything can happen. Right now, it seems like a two horse race what with Argo and Silver Linings Playbook garnering a lot of good buzz. SLP just won another film festival favorite award, and Argo was very warmly recieved in tinsel town recently (where a significant portion of AMPAS voters reside). The Master seems to be sliding a little, and I personally don't think it will win best picture. Acting awards, quite possiblely; but best pic, bit of a dark horse, I think. The scientlogy voters are certainly not going to be voting for it, that's a given!
