Have you seen the Pacific Rim trailer? Looks awesome. As much as it's a big blockbuster film, here's my guesses for stuff that it could wind up being discussed for, in order of likelihood:

Very likely:
Supporting Actor (Idris Elba): "Today we face the monsters that are at our door! Today we are cancelling the apocalypse!" An actor off The Wire actually bringing the goods in a big part is, frankly, a VERY STRONG NARRATIVE that I highly doubt critics will pass up discussing in their reviews.

Supporting Actress (Ellen "GlaDOS" McClain): Even though it's a voice part, if the A.I is more sarcastic than the trailer suggests, expect at least a bit of buzz, because c'mon. When it comes down to unbiased discussion of the absolute best of the year, V/O and mo-cap work SHOULD be able to enter discussions on occasion, especially at this point.
Lead Actress (Rinko Kikuchi): She's been off the radar for a few years, and if it's between serious buzz for this and serious buzz for rookie Carl Rinsch's out of control production 47 Ronin, I'll stake more confidence on this.)

Unlikely:
Supporting Actor (Charlie Day): Though he has the stronger career right now and we don't see him in the trailer, something tells me this is simple comic relief as opposed to Elba's motivational fireworks. Oscar will always choose the latter when it can.
No Way:
Lead Actor (Charlie Hunnam): Even in weak years, there's just no way they'd go for this. Unnominated actor in a movie dominated by special effects with more flashy roles and more recognizable performers all around him.

Category fraud, anyone else remember when TWC was trying to push off Winslet as Supporting Actress for Revolutionary Road? How it continually happens every year is beyond me.
