Playbill Yes, Julianne Moore accepted the Piper Laurie "Margaret White" part in the new film version of Carrie. She's brave that one, but stepping into another actor's iconic shoes (slippers in this case?) is tough work. See also Julianne Moore in Hannibal. I am so so sad about Gravity! Especially now if it gets released in early 2013 it's Oscar chances aren't that great....I really was looking forward to Sandra's performance and thought she had a great chance of being nominated again.
The adaptation of "Where The Wild Things Are"—another highly anticipated Warner Bros movie was delayed release several times and the final film was artistically satisfying. From what I understand Warner is still the most auteur friendly Hollywood studio presently. "Gravity" should be fine. As much as I'd like to see Sandra Bullock nominated again to validate her win, this film doesn't have to be it.
Bummed about Gravity too, but I doubt the delay is an Assassination of Jesse James/The Fountain/Where the Wild Things Are "we have no idea how to sell this so we're just going to leave it on a shelf for a while" things. This November/December is stuffed to the gills with big franchise pictures and if they were to move it to a slightly less competitive period AND give Cuaron a little extra time to finesse the effects, etc, that doesn't sound like a bad thing, necessarily.
That said, if we're still waiting for the movie to get a release date a year from now I'll be the first to break out the pitch forks.
We all knew Julianne was going to accept. She also did that absurd "Psycho" remake. I also think this is a mistake and a waste of time. There's no way they will get a movie as iconic as the first one. At a certain age, actresses in Hollywood get so frightened they will never work again that they end up saying yes to anything that comes along. Sad.

Julianne has given up before she can reap hardware for her Palin. Kidman her closest competition isn't more loved either, at least in the US.
So no Gravity means a George Clooney-free year? I'm not very happy about this.
@Peggie Sue: I also though about the "Psycho" remake... but there is still a difference to the "Carrie" remake. Van Sant's "Psycho" was a frame-to-frame-remake of Hitchcock's film, and "Hannibal" was a sequel to "Silence", with Hopkins still playing Lecter.
Kimberly Peirce's "Carrie" will be a new interpretation -- it will go back to the original Stephen King novel but simultaneously make it contemporary; at least that's what I have heard. So that will give Moore the chance of re-interpreting and re-creating the Margaret character, she doesn't have as much "guidelines" as with the cases listet above.
Still, of course, this remake is very risky and could go wrong. But I am intrigued what Peirce will do with it, making it timely with the whole bullying-issue.
Also, Moore doesn't say yes to anything that comes along -- it seemed so b/c in the mid of the 00's she did a lot of garbage projects, but actually she turned down a lot of TV lately (Prime Suspect lead, roles in Mildred Peirce and Special Relationship), so I am glad that she is still getting big screen work. She also disappointingly turned down the leading role in a romance/drama calles "Words and Pictures" with Clive Owen, directed by "A Cry in the Dark" director Fred Schepisi. (Juliette Binoche got the role after Moore declined.)
