Open (Sick Bed) Thread
Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 9:19PM I had so much blogging planned today but some sort of achey feverish flu struck me and I am out of commission. Has some devil hexed me? Someone who doesn't like twins, Witches of Eastwick, Mad Men wrap ups, Prometheus discussions, Reader Q & As and other sundry forms of blogtainment.
Discuss amongst yourselves. Please tell me you're feeling much better than this! Back to bed with juice and extra blankets for me.

I just watched We Need to Talk About Kevin. Not a fan at all. Tilda Swinton and Ezra Miller are great. The editing and approach to the material not so much. I wanted to fall in love with it and I'm so disappointed that I didn't.

Writing for the purpose of clearly communicating one's opinion acts as a barrier for me. I'm simply the kind of person where my passion overwhelms all sense of rational ability to just say what I mean and have it understandable to others from the cleanliness of my sentences and the plain approach of my language. I write this finding myself in a pause over how to properly write a movie review where clearly I just want to jolt down a quick overview of my feelings without painting a picture for the potential reader.
Men Don't Leave—is the title at hand. I saw it for the first time over the weekend and I hated it. My main gripe with the film is the lead character is a doormat. A newly windowed mother of two, played comatose by Jessica Lange—working without any of her divisive charms. Allows disrespect at ever turn, including her seventeen year old son's girlfriend who happens to be a woman in her late twenties, or early thirties.
The film is an American adaptation of a French production. I can only assume the French language original makes a lot more sense in explaining the motivations of these characters, who in this studio picture come across as unpleasant and in the case of Joan Cusack—the adult girlfriend, brazenly predatory.
When the producers hired Jessica Lange for the lead, I feel they thought she would bring the Langian. Tics, affected speech, living and breathing in a neurotic space, while at the same time on the verge of explosion. Her character does have a moment of rage and it comes at the expense of her job—this character is both a doormat and stupid.

I also just watched Prometheus. I enjoyed while I was watching it, but right after it was over and I started thinking about it, all too many flaws came running.
Girl, watch the Red Band Magic Mike trailer. You'll feel better.
I am reading The Witches of Eastwick at the moment and the novel is quite different from the film.
The film, in fact, is much much better, although the book is not bad at all.
This film was also one of those that made me fall deeply in love with La Pfeiffer.

Just read "Fifty Shades of Grey" will get a movie adaptation and that the (possible???) screenwriter (the "American Psycho" one) tweeted how Ryan Gosling would be the perfect male lead in a perfect cinema world, but he also mentioned Alexander Skarsgard.
For the leading female role he said Kristen Stewart (REALLY? -.-) or Scarlett Johansson (better choice) would fit the role.
The novel isn't that great, but it can easily translate to a good movie with the right director
Thinking about such a "sexually sick" novel being adapted makes me "sick of curiosity".
