I've been hearing interesting things about "Hope Springs." Lots of Oscar talk even. Apparently it's quite a bit more dramatic than it's being marketed, and TLJ and Meryl are getting buzz. Definitely not what I was expecting....
Holy Motors; that I missed the preview playing laat night and now have to watch 9 unbearably long days to see it. The Purity Ring album and will it seep into movie soundtracks the way Moby's Play did approx. 10 years ago? There's potential for sure.
I really wanna see that new Mira Sorvino film "Union Square." I haven't really seen her in a comedic role (although it looks like the film will be a dramaedy) for a while, and I've heard the reviews point out her performance. It just opened in my city last Friday, so hopefully it's good when I check it out this week!
Just recently saw the Skyfall and Life of Pi trailers.
Can't say I'm excited about Life of Pi. I strongly disliked the book and not sure how it'll turn into a movie anyone would want to watch. However, the visuals in the trailer look pretty strong and I'll see it anyway.
I'm so excited for Skyfall but I've always been a sucker for James Bond movies so perhaps I'm not the best judge.
It's officially that time of year where I get jealous of anyone who sees a movie even a week before me.
Just saw Your Sister's Sister and Safety Not Guaranteed in a double feature and was happily surprised to find that these two independent dramedies are far and away among the best movies I've seen this year. It's a shame nobody seems to be seeing these as they boast great screenplays and excellent performances worthy of awards consideration.
I am NOT a fan of "Musical", but I keep on seeing the preview for "Les Miz" & always get misty eyes. Dam you Anne Hateway! (she really look fantastic...)
I really can stop thinking about Killer Joe. That final fried chicken scene is a blessing for cinema.
Still thinking about Beasts Of The Southern Wild (small town theaters: always a week late for the zetigeist) and how much I just adored everything about it. I'd love to read a full review of it on this site, I think i recall you saying you were a fan too, but it's always nice to get your cinematic thoughts. Also thinking about
Just saw the trailer for Cloud Atlas and it looks interesting to say the least. I was also puzzled as to why the directors made a video explaining the trailer, and telling people to go see the movie; it seemed a bit strange.
Wondering when the hell they're going to announce the opening film for the New York Film Festival. They've announced the opener in July the last two years. With so many high profile films going elsewhere, I'm really interested in seeing if they can land a big premiere of their own or if they'll be forced to take other fest's leftovers.
Saw Skyfall trailer. Looks good, but then again, so did QoS. Mendes has been raving about the script, which was one of the biggest problems with QoS, so here's hoping.
Oh, and coherent action scenes. Where I can tell where characters are in relation to each other and stuff. That's kinda important, too.
Sight & Sound are releasing their once-a-decade Best Films of All Time list tomorrow - critics and directors versions. Their twitter was a-blazin' with a list of contributors. ALWAYS interested in what S&S has to present - wishing I was in London to see some of the corresponding Top Tens when they are presented at the BFI in September.
Also, I recently saw Picnic at Hanging Rock (finally) and can't shake it. Beautiful and haunting - such a precursor to some of my favorite films!

Planning my summer holidays, I realized I'm more obsessed than usual wih Montgomery Clift . I tried to make a t-shirt using a picture of him (haven't given up, still retouching the picture), and now thinking of my holiday destination all I can think of is Suddenly, Last Summer and that village with white houses where Sebastian...
Also, looking forward to seeing Prometheus. I couldn't make up my mind on what to see next weekend, Batman or Prometheus. Your review helped, if it leans (even more) heavily on the conservative side, I'm going to pass. If the whole vigilante thing wasn't enough, using the OWS movement would probably make me angry. And there's also the superhero angst. I can't have it anymore, not in these times. On the other side, Fassbender, Fassbender + Charlize Theron... I don't even know why I was indecisive.
The Paperboy trailer comes out tomorrow!! Cannot wait to see Kidman's trashy performance on movement!

I've just read an article in Rope of Silicon... Now, I see "The Dark Knight Rises" Best Picture Oscar chances as a way to honour the victims of the Aurora tragedy. Seeing TDKR getting a Best Picture nod can be seen as a sign of respect for all the franchise fans and as an apologize for TDK snub in 2008's Best Picture Oscar race.

Roark, thank Twitter b/c I needed the heads up myself! Apparently Ebert blogged that his personal top ten now includes Tree of Life. I think it will be most interesting to read the directors vs the critics (as always), and see what shifts/trends have occurred since 2002. I would LOVE to see Citizen Kane bumped off the top - if for no other reason than "enough already"...

@Iggy You should see it and formulate your own opinion. Just like the initial reviews of Prometheus threw me off and I was surprised to find that I really liked it.

About any new classics for the last 10 years, I hope someone recognize The Tree of Life, No Country for Old Man, There Will Be Blood, and even Mulholland Drive, In the Mood for Love.
Also hopefully Pulp Fiction got more recognition.
Still think no film can top Citizen Kane.
Trailers have been coming out like crazy lately! Bachelorette! Life of Pi! Ok, maybe just those two, but there's probably more. I need my does of Yes, No, Maybe So!

I watched last year's remake of "Fright Night" and was pleasantly surprised to see that Chris Sarandon has a cameo. However, it also kind of made me weep for Toni Collette. How I long to see her tear into a meaty film role again.
Saw "Beasts of the Southern Wild" last night. What a unique, weird film. I can't imagine how the writer/director sold his vision to producers to get it funded. I'm just glad he was successful.
I also can't believe it's based on a play. How exactly would that story be told on a stage?

Yikes, well so much for anything new making the SIght & Sound list. Only 2 movies in the top ten made after 1960. None after 1968. Four of ten made before 1940. Critics rallying around the "official" canon. Oh well.
Always amusing, and maybe a little depressing to see these S&S lists. Not a whole lot changes, it makes me more aware of all the blindspots for films I haven't seen, and it appears that cinema peaked half a century ago.
I am so happy with the casting of August:Osage County ... Margo Martindale being the latest member cast.. now if only Julia Roberts had been Laura Linney instead, I would be ecstatic.
