"Lolly had always said..."

A sentence from the book I'm reading...

Lolly had always said that a Meryl Streep movie was as good as chicken soup, a best friend, a therapist, and a stiff drink."

I get the first three but... a stiff drink? That's debatable though I might place Plenty (1985) in that category.

So which of Meryl's movies are chicken soups, therapists, friends, and stiff drinks? Divvy them up in the comments or add your own simile.

Death Becomes Her: best friend made out of chicken soup.

For chicken soup I would ladle up some warm "Silkwood," "Marvin's Room" and oh so metaphorically "Julie & Julia"; "One True Thing" and "Mama Mia" for the best friend thing; "Kramer vs. Kramer," "Heartburn" and "Postcards From the Edge" get inside your head; and "Out of Africa" would make more than one stiff drink necessary. That's a rough one.

This book sounds like a good read!

I think Plenty fits nicely in the "stiff drink" category...:)

The Deer Hunter, Sophie's Choice, The Hours and Iron Lady are all stiff drink movies to me.

I'm saving all my Streep energy for "August: Osage County."

Death Becomes Her is a really great pal.

Prada is probably a nice lentils soup.

Doubt is a therapist.

Tallsonofagun: Yeah, Streep's part of Julie & Julia is awesome. The Amy Adams half? I like Amy Adams, but that half was like being trapped in the complaints of people who hate Amy Adams for an hour.

Adaptation is most definitely my stiff drink. My therapist would be Manhattan, of course. My chicken soup is Silkwood and my best friend is Sophie's Choice.

I have news for you but I don't think it's Streep fatigue at all If you check on your last few weeks of blogs, you have very few comments ...however your subs generated quite a few!?!
