So glad to hear someone else point out that it wasn't necessarily Zeitlin and Haneke who took the spots of Affleck and Bigelow. I saw faaaaaar more people predicting Haneke than David O. Russell. Maybe Haneke was the clear #3 (or even higher).
It's pretty sad to see people blaming the little guys (in terms of their films' U.S. exposure).

Jane Fonda' 's new dream is to work with David O. Russell. Funny, this has immediately become my new dream as well!
The word 'snub' has started to really bother me lately, when they nominate I am sure the Academy actively votes for someone and not against. That academy members actively voted against Affleck or Bigelow is not really what happened. Same with any other 'snub'.
Jane Fonda is such a nice lady. And a brilliant actress. Somebody give her a movie, now!
Wow JFOND preferrs Sally Field over Anne Hathaway thank goodness somebody else saw past the no doubt fanntastic I dreamed a dream scene and saw that the rest of the performance is self concious and lacking in depth.
I never thought that Zeitlin and Haneke were the last placers, to be honest. For them to get in without the other nominations, they clearly had a lot of support and #1 votes. David O'Russel probably did too, as SLP was clearly beloved if Jacki Weaver was nominated. The other categories were expected, and even the director nomination was a bit surprising although not totally left field, but Jacki Weaver's nomination solidified the LOVE and support for the film.
I honestly think the last two spots would be Lee and Spielberg. They still got #1 votes, but probably not as many since they were expected to be nominated. That's likely why Bigelow and Affleck got left out, because they didn't get as many #1 and possibly a few less votes because people figured they were wasting votes on frontrunners, and wanted to try and nominate their absolute favs. Little did they know, the academy would actually be a bit different this year and more voters than usual were rallying behind the acclaimed underdogs.
I'm not upset that Haneke and Zeitlin got nominated. I haven't even seen their movies. I'm upset that Russell, whose movie I did see and who I admire, got nominated over the much deserving Kathryn Bigelow. Affleck did a great job with Argo, but I wasn't as enamored of his work as many others.
Regarding Jane, God, I love this woman! I think it's ironic how much she loved Jodie's speech. Ms. Fonda should have gotten the Cecil B. DeMille Award this year.
