The Flu

Apologies for my absence. Under the weather for the 17th time this year. I think the evil Flu realized that I kept claiming that my calendar year didn't end until Oscar Night and also overheard my praise for 2013 as a whole new rebirth after the constantly hideous 2012. It put two and two together and saw a window for one last attack!
Every hour'ish today, I've been startled awake by my own Oscar Fever 'omg I forgot to post something about Amour!' And as soon I dizzily stumble over to the computer I forget what it is that I've forgotten to say about it. I mean besides the top ten list which is 75% written... stay tuned. During this weird ritual I've realized that they still haven't announced who Amour's producer nominees are for Best Picture. And that, if Argo wins, Ben Affleck wins his second Oscar anyway despite the director "snub" and then they'll "owe" him --ugh! -- and he'll breeze to a third win. Some of my best actresses can't even win one!
Anyway I hope it's not the flu again and i'm just having an odd day but if it is, at least I have good company. Four day old Golden Globe joke coming at'cha...
I don't know who made this or i'd give them credit. but thanks for the lolz

Nat: Um...isn't it kind of an unspoken rule that a film needs a Best Director nomination to have a shot at winning best picture? Right now, it's between Lincoln and Silver Linings with a slight edge to Lincoln because of the currently higher gross and the more "respectable" subject matter.

The Ben Affleck pity party is the worst thing to happen this Oscar season. Scott Feinberg is such a smacked ass for even suggesting a write-in campaign.
Driving Miss Daisy won Best Picture without director Bruce Beresford being nommed. It's unlikely this would occur again, but I think ZD30 has a shot at Best Picture.
Does NY do this to you? In a musical theater metropolis, one would assume, you'd have abundant health and happiness.

Feel better. I've been avoiding public spaces whenever possible for the last week. Feel like the zombie plague is nipping at my heels every time I step outside my house.
I think voters will think they "owe" Affleck next time whether Argo wins BP or not! If Affleck next does the Whitey Bolger biopic he's been tossing around with Matt Damon for the last year, watch out! (even though Scorsese and Damon already kind sorta covered that ground with The Departed)
I just don't get the love for Argo. I think Affleck did a nice job, but to me, the movie is a sharp, well-crafted thriller-cum-time capsule, but nothing extraordinary. It's not even in the Top Ten.
brookesboy -- my feelings exactly. but it's kind of a perfect middlegorund movie. it doesn't have the divisiveness of so many of the other pictures. hard to hate it but i my experience a bit hard to love too. A solid movie (no more no less)
volvagia -- that rule gets SPOKEN so often it doesn't qualify as unspoken ;) i think that since it has happened before it can happen again. Particularly this year when things have been up in the air for so long.

Nathaniel Rogers for Best Supporting Actor in The Flu. Regardless of your acting ability, Nathaniel, you'd make a better nominee than three or four of this year's Supporting Actor shortlistees.
