Movie Mezzanine seemingly asked everyone but me to compile their "top ten" of the 1970s without commentary. I dont know why lists without commentary are fun to read but they are. It's fun to see which movies dominated their massive roundup (The Godfather is the expected winner, topping 6 lists and it's nearest rivals - more interesting -- are tied for 3 #1 ranks each:Annie Hall, Days of Heaven and Taxi Driver). I've already done this particular top ten in an earlier post but if I were to redo it it'd maybe look like so. And weirdly no one they polled had my #1 as #1 though it appears on a few lists.

Okay I cheated with a top twenty but the astonishing thing about that decade is that everyone's lists look completely reasonable because great films can be seen wherever you choose to look in your 70s film education. You know?

How about a little "Chopsticks" with Oscar bound (again) mega-stars Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock? So crazy that today's new adults (Happy 18th, 1995 babies!) were born into a world where Hanks and Bullock were ruling the box office and today here we are again. Talk about legs (and I don't mean Bullock's literal ones but wow those gams)

On the Ant-Man casting: If they're really doing Pym...those choices are TERRIBLE. They'd be great for Scott Lang, but if they're trusting Pym with his own franchise, he really needs someone...pricklier. There's a reason I keep saying, "Y'know who'd be a great Hank Pym? Aaron Paul."
I am surprised Eva is not a bigger deal. I thought she was cool in Saved but that was like a decade ago. She is good as Schmidt's office nemesis on New Girl so sitcom does not surprise me. And Sarandon may either be doing her a favor or just wants to get a steady check.
But this news does ruin my actual dream of Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon being on Season 4 of American Horror Story. Did it involve vampires? Yes.
I like Xavier Dolan. He's arrogant and ambitious but his filmography backs it up, for me at least. He gets lifetime passes for Heartbeats and Laurence Anyways.
I have to admit, I am sad to see Susan doing a sitcom. If it were a cable drama series I'd be enthused, but so few sitcoms are watchable.
I would like Susan to keep doing the important to the story supporting roles like Arbitrage,jjeff who lives at home and in the valley of elah although I am sure she has one more LOUISE in her.

Jane's Oscar win for Klute has to be my favorite ever as she gives my favorite performance of all-time. :)
Speaking of daughters (Eva) of famous people getting roles because of their parents, didn't Dakota Johnson get the role opposite Charlie Hunnam because of their "amazing chemistry?" So if Charlie is dropping out, is Dakota getting the boot? And isn't this all just a convoluted way to get the Director's husband into his skivvies?

Xavier Dolan and Shohreh Aghdashloo should do a movie together. Not only do they share a resemblance but their voices sound quite similar.
They should ask Goldie Hawn to come out of the retirement and turn The Banger Sisters into a sitcom.
Interesting Top 10 lists for the best movies of the seventies. I agree with a lot of them but I noticed not much love for Best Picture winners - Patton, The Sting, Rocky (rightly so), Deer Hunter and the highly overrated Kramer vs Kramer.
And if you wanna know the Best Performance by a female in the 70s?
No contest - Miss Sally Field in 'Norma Rae'. An absolute gem of a movie. Love love love it.
