Happy Birthday, Goldie!

She definitely doesn't look it, but Goldie Hawn is turning 68 today! She has many roles worth celebrating - The First Wives Club, Death Becomes Her, Private Benjamin, this jazzy Beatles cover - but today I'd like to shine a light on that zany show where she first got her start, the short-lived but always incredible Laugh In.

Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In Clip #6 Goldie... by RetroCafe

Like Judy Holliday before her, Goldie Hawn turned Blonde Ditz into an artform. Happy Birthday, Goldie, no matter what time zone you're in!

"No, Sean Connery is Monique's boyfriend! He may be three hundred years old, but he's still a stud!"

So what's the word on Cactus Flower, her Oscar-winning role? I never hear anyone talk about the movie or the performance. As much as I love her (one of my first actressexual crushes), I've never seen it.

"This is a Golden Globe-it's sacred...it's TRADEMARKED!"

I quote Elise Elliot at least once a day. Happy birthday Goldie!

John T.--and then Bette Midler's character says: "Yeah, I know, your first talkie."

hehe

DJ, Goldie is wonderful. I don't know if she's Oscar-worthy, but she's very touching and has star power to spare. The movie around her is not very good, but it's a real kick to see her together with a game Ingrid Bergman. Definitely worth a look, but it has not aged well. Yikes.

Loved this clip. Her comic energy is really one-of-a-kind.

There's a scene Goldie Hawn does in Death Becomes Her that always reduces me to helpless laughter. It's the group therapy scene in prison where they ask Goldie if she has anything to say. Her single minded obsession that never deviates gets me every time.

"I would like... to talk about.... Madeline Ashton..."

I love Death Becomes Her, and still wonder why it's not a more famous camp / Gay classic. It's so fabulously bitchy!

Her memoir, A Lotus in the Mud, was rather disappointing. It was very flower child, and completely skipped over half of her career, including "Death Becomes Her" and "The First Wives Club", focusing on her spiritual journey.

"Cactus Flower" wasn't bad. Nice cast, Neil Simon script. very of-its time.

Happy Birthday, Goldie!

@DJDeeJay - she's adorable in it but it's pretty much the exact same performance she gives in butterflies are free

and how she beat susannah york is (yet another) oscar mystery

"En garde... bitch"

Death Becomes Her is one the funniest things ever. Peak Campy Meryl and Goldie is a hoot in it too. I myself rewind and constantly replay that scene in the beginning where she's in her apartment eating ice cream and replaying Madeline being choked to death in a movie while eating ice cream with her hands. Plus the way she goes to get more ice cream while kicking some boxes around. A truly hilarious, psichadeic comic, and everyone seems to be having a blast in it.

Plus I just love that their nicknames are Mad and Hell hahahah.
