now that the Weinsteins have access to their Miramax back-catalogue expect sequels. Shakespeare in Love 2 is coming at you (no, this is not a satirical Onion style post)
Variety Disney is planning a Jesse Owens biopic centered around the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. Rich subject though it will obviously be easy to slide into pandering "inspirational"

at press conference James Cameron compares his Avatar sequels to The Godfather trilogy. Oh Jimmy. I love you more than just about anyone but less talking (you're no good at it!) and more filmmaking (you're great at it!)

on the big problem with Masters of Sex. I absolutely agree with this but for me the show is great enough to overcome it... which is saying a lot since Bill Masters (Michael Sheen) is the lead

Today's Best Movie Anything!
God bless Screen Daily for uncovering this gem...

In a week when American film critics organization have been tripping over each other to bestow awardage which, even when thoughtful can feel totally boring, a Danish Film Critics group have shown the world how it's done. They've mocked themselves up in character posters a la Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac to promote their awards (on February 1st) - note their outlet instead of character name on the posters. Nymphomaniac will be eligible for their prizes since it opens for Christmas in Denmark. This makes me want to read every single damn one of these critics weekly so a job well done!

Kris Tapley. Seems like a nice enough guy. Is he allergic to women? Or is it just femininity that's a problem?

“It’s a movie about AIDS, but it’s also really a civil rights movie”

You can always count on Ryan Murphy to make things sounds so utterly pedestrian.

I should really just give up on considering Tapley's tastes. He sees things in certain films that I just do not really think are there. That's fine but he likes to harp on the flaws and structures of other films other people like, as if the opinion is a fact and set in stone. He likes 'literary, sprawling' scripts (Mud, Place Beyond the Pines, and the 'European' Out of the Furnace that are also 'guys' movies) but to me the translation of those scripts to the screen that he champions feel incomplete or just are empty despite, simple despite the grandiose structure.

He also seems to dismiss the actual great year for foreign films. One thing to find The Great Beauty or Blue is the Warmest Color to be 'flawed' but there was also The Grandmaster (I know, I know the Hong Kong cut is better and in my Top 5), Bastards (Claire Denis certainly is as literary minded as any filmmaker), and Drug War, as good as any hi-brow action film that we see from Michael Mann.

does anyone know when will the academy release the shortlist for the foreign film category?

Team Experience must recreate that poster too!

I wish Cameron wasn't such a jackass that bloggers/commenters wouldn't so gleefully take one of his comments out of context. He clearly meant it in a different manner than it's being reported, and yet every site has run the asshole version because of his manner. The dude doesn't have a publicist, and I'm pretty sure the profession of publicist was created specifically for people like him.
