What's the one film you wish had gotten more Oscar attention this season?

Was there anything this season that truly surprised you?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterdenny

This year, the scheduling of everything seemed to change dynamics of the season. What worked and didn't work for you about how precursors lined up on the calendar? What would you like to see next year?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTom M

If foreign films got more traction in the acting races, who else besides Emmanuelle Riva would you have liked to have seen make it in?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBia

Hey gang! Just wanted to hear some of your thoughts, after Sunday night, now about the films that lost buzz leading up to Oscar night (Zero Dark Thirty, etc.) and those that seemed to gain traction leading up to the ceremony (Argo, Life of Pi). Any surprises from what won, or lost due to this?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterRyan M

Of the acting nominees who lost and who are not previous winners who do you think will be the first one to win an Oscar in the future ?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterRami

With all the baity roles her way this year, do you think Naomi Watts might win the Oscar next year considering that she'll also be benefiting from her nomination's afterglow?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBVR

I love Rami's question so much that I'm just going to say please answer that and not add my own.

Can the Ben Affleck snub make the Academy change the rules that other categories follow the 5 to 10 nominees or will the just go back to 5 nominees in Best Picture? Will they just pretend that this year anomalies never happen?

Will the Academy in general learn that visual effects, cinematography and production design in this new digital era of cinema are not the same things or they will keep voting on the prettiest? Is there hope for non-visual effects films in cinematography?

If Amy Poehler and Tina Fey can't host next year (they probably have a exclusivity contract with the Globes), can we have Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence?

Is Christoph Waltz the most unlikely two-time Oscar winner ever in the acting categories?

Tarantino 2012 = Alexander Payne 2011? They only like their writing. Are they to idiosyncratic for Best Picture or Best Director?

Will Sasha Stone ever stop whining about Lincoln or are we headed for a Social Network X King's Speech and Saving Private Ryan X Shakespeare In Love endless argument?

As you can see, so many question....

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMe

How much do popularity, image and reputation influence the outcome in Academy voting? A big factor in Argo's victories was how highly voters think of Affleck and his "nice guy" narrative. It seems like some really great films are never going to break into the "club." I'm just wondering why Spielberg didn't benefit more from this.

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

Is this the first time that Spielberg direct an Actor that wins an Oscar for that performance?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterstjeans

stjeans, you're right. This is the first Oscar-winning performance from a Spielberg film. Crazy!

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

Who is your out-there pick for Oscar host next year?

Which category'a winner actually pissed you off?

Who won the James Cameron lookalike contest? Anne Hathaway's husband, Tom Hooper, or Michael Haneke?

What was your favorite swag gift or academy-related event you attended this year?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterjtagliere

Which of the nominees would you like to accompany to the after-parties?

;)

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJorge Rodrigues

I already posted this on the facebook status, but ... do you think Jennifer Lawrence could become a two-time Oscar winner?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterPhilip H.

Imagine you are sociologists and explain to me the current obsession with bubbly princesses opposed to the frenzy with seniors actresses during the 80s.

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterPeggy Sue

Do you think that Jessica Chastain can win an Oscar one day?

And I know that Nick doesn't care for either of their performances, but between Jessica and Jennifer, who does he think was better? He has impeccable taste.

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTerry

I love Raimi's question!

Also:

What do you think about next year's clash of the princesses between Naomi (Diana) and Nicole (Grace)?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMr Fox

Who do you finished second in each of the acting categories?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLynn

How do you think the winners (in the acting categories) will manage their careers from now on? Who's going to be in tailor made star vehicles almost exclusively, who will semi-retire, who will continue his/her career as if nothing had happened?

Also, to me Waltz victory may have benefitted from the new online voting system. I thinkg online voters are younger than the usual ones, and so the younger voters would've gone with the least veteran of the bunch, and the guy who was in the Tarantino movie. I don't know why, but traditional voting members seem to me less keen to giving two Oscars to foreign actors, particularly so soon one after the other. So, the question, I forgot. Do you think online voting has dramatically influenced the results?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered Commenteriggy

What do you think about the prospect of best friends Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman go face to face at next year's Oscar?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMike

Both Lawrence and Emma Stone remind me of deft comdiennes like Barbra Stanwyck and shirley MacLaine. Unfortunately I can't think of any current writers / directors who can make movies like Ball of Fire or The Apartment. Can you think of any?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermurtada

What kind of projects would you like to see from each acting winner. (You could each pick one winner.)

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMike in Canada

How would you rank the last 5 Best Actor/Actress winners from Best to Worst?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMJ

which nominee this year will win an Oscar sooner? and which one has the least chances of being nominated again?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCarlos

Who did you miss / or whom would you like to see throughout the next award season? This could be because you want them to have a career resurgence, OR it could simply be because you love their personality
.. I'd have to say - Emma Thompson, Maggie Smith, or Jane Fonda

What will Sony regret more in its Oscar campaign of Zero Dark Thirty?:

If we are to believe the LA Times story, Sony and the filmmakers wanted not just a prestige movie but a hit prestige movie. By favoring profit though the filmmakers had to stay quiet in the thick of the controversy. Did Zero Dark Thirty ever have a chance at Best Picture since it was always going to be the same murky, ambiguous, exhausting film with morally compromised characters? Could have a more even-handed, open dialogue among both sides of those who criticized the movie and those who defended it had helped the movie? It was clear in those later film critics awards that went from favoring Zero Dark Thirty to Argo. Could Argo have been Best Picture without Zero Dark Thirty's fall from the controversy? Personally, I am not so sure.

Or

When favoring profit in selling the movie with commercials, Sony completely completely favoring the male demographic by heavily promoting SEAL Team 6 with very little Jessica Chastain shown. So promoting the last half-hour of the movie but not bothering to promote the film to females by showing a central female character who was a key figure in the death of Osama Bin Laden that could have been a selling point to people who were reading the film glorified torture and the killing of Bin Laden and feeling to antsy to see it otherwise. It felt as though by not promoting the Maya character commercially (not that I think she is an accessible, flaw-free character at all, far from it) that Sony was not fully exploiting its box office potential as Zero Dark Thirty stubbornly sits in the 90 million gross range when it easily could have hit over $100 million domestically.

Was Sony's roll out of the movie, when in the thick of the controversy only played at a few screens in major cities, also a problem that they might have regret in both their box office and awards showing?

What's the likelihood that Amy Adams will be nominated for anything again?
Is Renee Zwelliger's career over? She looked pretty bad up there with her Chicago pals.

Why did Tommy Lee Jones lose to Waltz?

Also, @murtada, you are brilliant! I love the idea of a Stone/Lawrence pic. Where is Billy Wilder when you need him!

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterPam

What did you think of the presentations of the Oscar Awards? I personally missed the individual presentations for Best Actor and Best Actress. It's driving me crazy, I need to know what Jean Dujardins thoguht about Quvenzhané Wallis's performance. It keeps me awake at night.

Also, what do you want to see more: A Channing Tatum-Charlize Theron Rom Com or a Daniel Radcliffe-Joseph Gordon-Levitt - Seth McFarland buddy comedy / musical?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterPatrick Gratton

Out of the directors and actors present at the show, which pairing are you most excited about?

Ang directing Lewis
Spielberg directing Meryl
Ang directing Meryl
Ang directing Chastain
Meryl and Lewis acting together
Haneke directing Chastain
Bigelow directing Hathaway
or somebody else

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterRic

Will Renee Zellweger rise again? Can she see?

February 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterDPfaff

February 27, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMARK

Is there any particular artist (actor, director, costume designer, etc.) that you wish would get an Oscar nomination already? I am in a big Ewan McGregor phase right now, and I am sad he isn't getting recognized for anything.
