Curio: Liza Love

Alexa here. Liza Minnelli turns 67 today. (Nathaniel is seeing her in concert tomorrow!).  Count me among the disappointed that this year's Oscar telecast, said to be a tribute to movie musicals, didn't at least acknowledge Cabaret.  Seems they meant to celebrate only the revival of the form, but still, couldn't we get Liza to join the other divas for a number instead of making time for Seth Macfarlane's ode to boobs?

Oh well, count me amongst the grumbling olds. Suffice it to say that I love me some Liza. I can't wait until Arrested Development Season 4 premieres in a few months since I think Lucille Austero is one of her best roles.  In the meantime, here are some curios that celebrate her film life.

I'm glad you mentioned Arrested Development! My boyfriend and I just recently started watching the series in preparation for the outstanding sounding season 4, and Liza Minnelli as Lucille Austero is an absolute riot! I love her character and comedic timing, and I can't wait to see what else the series has in store for her!

How strange, I literally just watched Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows last night. Not directly related to her, but still.

Saw Cabaret as a wee one and did not even know she was Judy Garland's daughter but found something distinctively Judy about her. Before Arrested Development (which she was amazing in and should have one the Guest-Star Emmy everything time she appeared), I found out her Hollywood notoriety in those juicy E! True Hollywood Story series (when E!THS actually did episodes on interesting artists and celebrities than just another informercial for their reality programs) and found her fascinating. That was also around the time Boy from Oz was also happening so that part of her life was getting noticed (this was also around the time I was becoming aware of Judy and Liza statuses as gay icons too). Her trainwreck marriage was also about to happen and I felt very bad/fascinated by all of it.

And Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows was fantastic. Judy Davis was perfect.

I agree that Me and My Shadows was great, but Tammy Blanchard should've played Judy for a little while longer. Judy Davis came in at like 21 and made her look approx. 40 years old for the whole entire movie rest of the movie, whether she actually was that age or not, and it was messing with my mind. I couldn't ignore it.
