Linker's Game

Pajiba on the fall of the once brilliant Orson Scott Card. How is this the same man that wrote Ender's Game (coming soon to a movie theater near you)?
New York Times "Nora Ephron's Final Act" this piece about her death was written by her son.
Gothamist chooses the 12 Best Movie Theaters in NYC. Solid choices though I do think Film Forum and Lincoln Plaza are just so uncomfortable seating-wise, and the latter isn't one-of-a-kind like Film Forum so I try to never go there.

Vulture a sitcom smackdown between Sex & The City and 30 Rock. As someone who loves both shows, I thought this was a fascinating comparison but the readers got really super ultra angry
CHUD on the upcoming werewolf Netflix series Hemlock Grove. (I do think it's interesting that Netflix is moving into production but I fear for audiences. After years of getting a lot of things for free the model seems to be moving towards having about 14 different subscriptions to see all the stuff you wanna see.)
In Contention I've tried to write about everything that's going on with Steven Spielberg a million times this week (He's so busy! Those Lincoln losses must have lit a fire) but I'm giving up and now linking you over to Tapley who will explain it all.

two thing that are not happening
In closing I'll just be let it know that I think it's very smart that Sam Mendes has opted to pass on directing Bond 24 which is wise since the series might not be able to top Skyfall given the billion dollar gross and the 50th anniversary hoopla and the Oscar stats which more than doubled the franchise's entire history with the Academy! I think it's very sad that Disney is not developing any handdrawn animated feature.

As a wee little gay boy, I ATE UP Ender's Game. I was obsessed. I eventually read all the books in the series. It wasn't until after I had finished reading those books that I found out about who Orson Scott Card was. It was almost like I felt betrayed? I haven't read them again ever since, but I have thought about it from time to time.

He is totally entitled to his opinions, even if I hate or don't understand them.

Also, 30 Rock losing to SATC in that bracket is so unfortunate.

As for the best theaters in NYC, Nitehawk is fun but it is very small and you have to get there so early just to get a good seat. Now people are flocking to it and it's even more busy. I STILL HAVEN'T SEEN A MOVIE AT THE ZIEGFELD and I'm very upset about it.

Ryan -- but didn't you think the breakdown of why SATC won was interesting? I loved that article.

The Ziegfeld. I saw Lawrence of Arabia there. The best place to appreciate Lean's masterpiece.

The real comedy bracket travesty was Golden Girls losing to Friends, but I guess it's all okay.

Always thought Ender's Game was overrated.

I LOVED the article on SATC vs. 30 Rock, two shows I enjoy very much. These days, if there's a hint of femininity - girls (even guys) talking sex, musicals, and especially women who are flawed (a frightening double standard) - you'll read endless posts saying it's idiotic, poorly written and belongs on Lifetime. I felt like the arguments on these shows were well thought out by someone who enjoys both of them (and clearly states she expected 30 Rock to be her winner going in). Her point is that allowing characters humanity brings a higher level of comedy, rather than aiming endless jokes at the camera. If we weren't talking about two shows, I expect everyone would agree with that.

SATC Movie #2 should not erase the groundbreaking nature of the show.

OMG I think that THE GOLDEN GIRLS was by far the wittiest, razor-sharp sitcom ever!!
Never again will 4 women have that much chemistry together.

RIP Bea, Rue, and Estelle!

That Vulture article makes me irrationally angry. The author readily admits that 30 Rock is funnier than SATC, yet the less funny show wins. What the what??!

Whatever. SATC reruns make me cringe. 30 Rock reruns make me laugh. Vulture's argument is not strong enough to sway me from that simple fact.
