I Can't Wait: The Bling Ring

I want to wear this new poster for Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring (2013) in five kinds of ways. Doesn't it make you wonder who your favorite character in the movie will be? (Besides Sofia Coppola's Mood, duh!, since that's always her movie's best character.)

Who wears which shades (after the jump)?

I've blown this poster up huge in photoshop and I still can't tell who is which character though Israel Broussard is obviously "The Right Hand Man". But Taissa Farmiga, Emma Watson, Katie Chang and Claire Julien. Who are they? Methinks the poster artists have embellished with the glasses a bit. None of the girls are wearing "The Lookout" glasses and all of them are throwing "The Star" 'tude... though Emma Watson is the only one that qualifies just yet with The Fame.

After The Perks of Being a Wallflower I am officially giving her the benefit of the doubt and will pretend (for the time being) that My Week With Marilyn and years of embarrassingly overpraised Hermione Eyebrow Acting didn't happen.

Sofia Coppola doesn't make crap movies. She only makes good to great ones with at least one but often a handful of truly arresting moments.

Can't wait.

Emma's a terrible actress. even in her so-called best in Perks she was out of her league against Ezra and Logan.

I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Exited about this! Coppola is a MAJOR Writer/Director & Hopefully it will pick up at Cannes & do well!

I actually own the "Wild Card" glasses.

and i'm cheering for Emma!

She steadily improved throughout the HP franchise and she was pretty decent in Perks. Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller did make her look a little weaker in comparison but I really think those two had more to do with their characters than she did.

and i caught a clip of My Week with Marilyn on TV and i totally forgot that Emma was even in the movie. She had a throwaway character.

I'm not a apologist for Emma but really do think I think Bling Ring will be more of a test for her than any of her post-Potter films so far.

It makes me think of this poster from Spring Breakers, which makes sense when you consider A24 distributes both:

I demand a double-feature.

I thought Emma was solid in Perks and really grew in the Harry Potter movies. I'd watch a movie of just her and Erza's characters. To me Logan was stuck in a pretty flat cipher role, which goes back to the book where the character was so frustratingly passive.

Also glad Taissa Farmiga is had work to do after being the only one besides Connie Britton and Frances Conroy to not reappear in American Horror Story: Asylum. I dug her bratty teenager on the show.

whoops, totally read the poster wrong. I own the "right-hand man" shades.

though i could rock the "wild card" if needed....

CMG - Frances Conroy actually was on AHS: Asylum.

Emma Watson was soooo bad in My Week with Marilyn, but I heard she was great in Perks (still haven't seen it :/) and I'm interested to see her in this.

Based on the character analysis and whom they are portraying, I'd say it's safe to say Katie Chang is "the mastermind" since her character is based on Rachel Lee and Watson is "the star" based on Alexis Neiers, whom had a reality show on E! that showcased her throughout the trial.

I hope Watson delivers in this! I enjoyed her performance in Perks and hope that she brings it in this (please, let this not be Spring Breakers: Home Invaders...)

This looks promising. As the role called for, Watson was perfectly tender and damaged in Perks.
I'm rooting for her in this - it appears to be unlike anything she's played yet in her short career. And thank god that they at least tried for something different with the poster (i.e. NOT floating faces). I think Coppola's style should compliment this story well.

Emma's making smart choices, plus she took that funny cameo in the upcoming Seth Rogen film which looks like a great move for her.

Count me among the Emma believers. I actually liked her even more than I liked Ezra Miller in Perks. And I mean...how can we judge anyone for what they did in My Week With Marilyn? Sofia will get her where she needs to be.

From right to left: the mastermind, the right-hand man, the star, the lookout, the wild card

April 14, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKareem

I meant left to right, obviously.

OK here's a bigger pic: http://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/541607_579454198739685_755214679_n.jpg and yes, none of the girls are wearing the lookout, which is a shame.

I predict Emma will be an Oscar nominee within the next 5 years

Okay, I LOVE this poster. And the teaser was awesome too. This movie is racking up the points already. Bring it!

Sofia Coppola did wonders for her actresses' career... Think about all the "Coppola girls": Kirsten Dunst estabilished herself with "The Virgin Suicides" and then she got some momentum by playing the title character in "Marie Antoinette"; Scarlett Johansson became a movie star thanks to her performance in "Lost In Translation"; and the world stated there's another Fanning girl when Elle starred "Somewhere"

I truly believe Emma Watson will be seen as an actress after "The Bling Ring" and not as a girl who benefits from the popularity of the Harry Potter franchise

April 14, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterEd

But she was good in My Week With Marilyn. Why pretend it didn't happen?
