"Where were you in '62?"

Don't forget that Hit Me With Your Best Shot returns Wednesday evening July 3rd. In this series we all watch a movie together and post and write about our favorite image therein.

I chose American Graffiti (1973) for its Americana value for the Holiday week and for the simple fact that I've never seen it and I'm always trying to fill in those gaps in my Oscar knowledge.

Are you joining us?

Queue them for the next three episodes: American Graffiti, Dead Ringers and Mary Poppins

I've been absent from "Hit Me.." for a long time, but I do want back! Just need to find out how to watch the movie though...

Hope you enjoy. I LOVE Star Wars and Indiana Jones, but every time I see Graffiti I wish Lucas hadn't become so totally consumed by the franchises, and had directed a few more intimate works when he was still young and sharp as a filmmaker.

Oh, I remember Candy Clark, she was so cute and swivel-eyed but after American Graffiti I never saw her in anything. Had no idea she got nominated.

This is just barely apropos, but... When they announce the 1973 nominees for supporting actress (viewable on YouTube) they cut to someone other than Candy Clark when they announce her (and it's back to Candy when they're opening the envelope).
Who is she?! I swear I recognize her, but I can't figure it out.
It's an Oscar mystery!

Looking forward to the return of the series. Will be watching along and reading the choices with interest.

Nathaniel, on a side note I have a question that seems to fit in here what with the first film in the series being released in 1973 as well as it being July.

Were you planning on writing up anything in observance of the 40th anniversary of the great celebrity apocalypse of late June-early July '73 that started with Fay Holden and ended with Bruce Lee when about a dozen stars of varying magnitudes died within a three week period including Betty Grable, Veronica Lake and Robert Ryan? I have memories of it being a huge news story at the time as each day seemed to bring a new obit with it.

Candy Clarke was in the 88 blob remake.

I watched this over the weekend JUST FOR THIS SERIES...and I was blown away with how much I actually loved the movie. I really expected to find it mediocre, but it was wonderful. I'll be posting my best shot tomorrow :-D

I'm know that I'm early with this, but I won't be around Wednesday morning so I wanted to get this to you now.

The Cinemark movie chain is including "American Graffiti" in its summer classics series this year on July 28 & 31, and I can't wait to see it on a big screen. It's one of the first movies featuring a sprawling ensemble that I fell in love with, and that's still my favorite kind of film today.
