Jessica + Cate, Mary Music, and Other Linkables

Awards Circuit I guest starred on their podcast Power Hour this week. We talk Oscar's actress categories and Ben Affleck
Film School Rejects Diana gets a November release date
HuffPo interviews Eric Bana (Closed Circuit) who does not like Hulk
Final Girl lists the 5 best vampires of all time. This list LOL'ed me up good
Gothamist Patton Oswalt and Joss Whedon defend Ben Affleck's casting as Batman
Bad Ass Digest chooses the 11 best movies of the summer. Amidst all the fanboy titles are Short Term 12 and Blue Jasmine so well done.

Jessica Chastain ♥ Cate Blanchett
This was posted on the Actress's facebook page yesterday.

Sweet. And generous. And culturally aware just as we've come to expect from Chastain who by all accounts is a lovely person and real film enthusiast as well as one of the most important actors to emerge this decade.

Exit Music
Since we've been on a Mary Poppins kick this year what with that Best Shot steppin' time party and Saving Mr Banks coming out here's a music videdo that uses only sounds from Mary Poppins for its beats and melodies...

Jessica's facebook page is the best! She never comes across as vain or self absorbed. I loved when she asked her fans what their favorite Liv Ullmann performance was! YES!! or better said, JESS!!

I love her Facebook page. She damn well near gives me a toothache with how nice, polite, and positive she is. She also acknowledged that she read my nice message and I just about died.

I love how much she is a lover of film. She out-Marilyned Michelle Williams for a reason that awards season. She knows MM's filmography like the back of her hand.

Jessica is always so complementary of other actors. Last year she mentioned both Riva and Cotillard's performances in interviews.

Dallas Buyers Club got moved back to Nov 1st. The buzz is sounding very real. I also know someone that saw it and said it was amazing. Those clips on ET looked great especially McConaughey and Leto who both are sure locks in noms.

August 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJosh

Josh -- i dont think we can call Leto a lock for a nom when he has been around forever but has no kind of esteem / stature within that part of the industry. But I hope he's great in it and if so i'll be rooting for him.

nathaniel, "bunheads" has a farewell video (just a suggestion for these links as you were a fan)!

I will add my voice to the Jessica lovers. I would love to see her on Twitter, but her posts are always so intelligent. Her cinephilia is pretty obvious (remember when she gave Michael Haneke his Oscar last year and said it was a huge highlight for her?). Hoping The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby gets all its crap settled out so they can finally release it this year.

August 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJordan

The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby is at Venice and TIFF, so at least it can be admired in the festival circuit (I sadly cannot see it at TIFF due to my ticket package and the fact it conflicts with Gravity). Gravity better be the goods because, I don't care if it is 2 movies put together as one for a long period of time: ISABELLE HUPPERT PLAYS JESSICA'S MOTHER!!!!!

August 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCMG

OMG I didn't know they were playing mother and daughter! Huppert can have the universe if she wants it.

August 26, 2013 | Unregistered Commenter3rtful

Jessica Chastain would have been a very interesting choice in the Jasmine role as well, not that anyone can/should/has been thinking that anyone but Blanchett was born for the role. I'd like to see her take on a similarly edged character in the future.

"Amidst all the fanboy titles..." That's a little reductive isn't it? After all you quite liked Iron Man Three yourself, and The World's End is one of the best reviewed films of the summer in general.

August 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCasey Fiore

I still feel it's Watts' to loose.

August 27, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermark

I shed a tear listening to that podcast. Clearly you're the voice of reason.

August 27, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterPeggy Sue

Peggy Sue -- it's too bad "reasonable" is not a hot commodity on the internet ;)

casey -- but they're all genre films! and the type fanboys go gaga for. But yes I did love Iron Man 3. I don't get the fuss over 'the World's End' though which is easily the worst of the trilogy for me. Not a "bad" film per se but messy and lacking the specific genre-riffing punch that the other two films were so great at. I feel like the reviews are being very kind because of love for the first two movies.

August 27, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMOTHER

I always thought Chastain was intelligent; why does she write like a retard? (pardon)

August 27, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterHayden W

@Hayden - Not sure what I'm missing, but her grammar and spelling are all correct. Most celebrities on Twitter can't form a coherent sentence. She at least seems to know what a comma splice is and how to avoid it. Not sure I get your point.

August 27, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJordan

Today at school we read Holes. It was a really good book. My teacher, Miss Chastain, said a lot of really good things about it. She is very smart!

August 27, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterHayden W

Haha. Agreed, Hayden W.

August 27, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterNick McC.

LMFAO! @ Hayden. Regardless, I still love Jessica.

August 27, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAaron

hahahahah, @Hayden, you'r absolutely right. But it ocurred to me she might be concerned with international audiences. Maybe that's why she keeps it simple...?

August 27, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterClara

I would love for folks to post some insights into what they see in Jessica Chastain's performances that they appreciate most. I've seen "The Debt," "Coriolanus," and "Zero Dark Thirty," and apart from "Coriolanus," where I think she made an excellent choice by keeping it low key while playing alongside Ralph Fiennes and Vanessa Redgrave, I feel like I catch her capital-A acting much more often than I would like. In "The Debt," I felt like her acting choices were very deliberate: Here, I will be vulnerable. Here, I will be steely with an undercurrent of anxiety.

I read so much about how she is a great actress, and I want to get a sense of what other people see. (Not trying to flame here.)

August 27, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSusannah

Hayden -- ha. i've chosen to interpret it as that she is a sweet cheerleader / A student type. Super smart but non verbal.

August 27, 2013 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

Ms. Chastain is posting on FB. She's not seeking to issue poetic discourses on life. Sigh.

August 27, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

@ Susannah

Watch her in THE HELP and understand why she earned her first nomination for it.
