Happy National Pie Day! What's Your Favorite Pie Scene in a Movie?
Today is National Pie Day and if you don't celebrate it by watching Josh Brolin and Kate Winslet make pies as a substitute/preamble to carnal rutting in Labor Day (reviewed), you should eat one. To the left you'll see me as the proud chef of my first pie a month back. It was pumpkin (duh!), messy, and a little burnt but I devoured it anyway. Despite the deliciousness I had planned for this Very Important Day, film festivalling has thrown off my other blogging instincts (I'll be back to normal Monday). So no big pie-celebrating top ten list or visual extravaganza for this very special day.
When I think of pies in the movie I often think of The Help or Waitress but in neither of those cases would I want a slice, you know? The other most easy-to-retrieve pie memory is the now extinct slapstick gag of cream pies in people's faces.
Help me find better cinematic attachments to pies by citing your favorites in the comments.

The huge pie fight in The Great Race in a pie factory no less! Goofy but Natalie Wood at her most beautiful and most antic, yes please.
Jason Biggs
Not movies but pies will always make me think of Lee Pace. Piemaker forever.
I'm with JA - The Piemaker forever. And Lee Pace for everything.
For me, almost everything that comes to mind almost relating to pie is tv, not film - Pushing Daisies, Twin Peaks, the old SNL diner skit with Jan Hooks and Alec Baldwin ("pie is never free"). That said, it is fun to see Kenneth Mars take a pie in the face in What's Up, Doc?
Too late. Was going to mention Lee Pace. He can bake my pie any day. Wait, what?
Meryl giving it to Jack in Heartburn.
Pies are big in my family. Grandma always baked us kids our favorite pie--not cake--for our bdays.
Yeah, Lee Pace!
I also like that moment in Never Been Kissed where Drew Barrymore gets high and eats her whole pie.
I'm also guessing The Help's is no one's favorite pie moment. ;)
Is it too cliche to say the infamous scene from American Pie. I find the physical comedy of it and the after conversation to be hysterical.
"But I don't want to be a pie!"
And then there were the meat pies in Titus.
Dude -- Lardass from Stand by Me.
Well there's no actual pie in the scene, but my first cinematic pie thought was When Harry Met Sally :) Pecan Pie!
Sally Albright: Waiter, there is too much pepper on my paprikash.
Harry Burns: But I would be proud to partake of your pecan pie.
Mildred Pierce made yummy pies. And then got her own restaurant.
Travis -- awww you just made my heart swell three sizes. I could totally hear "pecan pie" line readings in my head.
It's such a shame that the Sweeney Todd movie adaptation flopped! Mrs. Lovett's human meat pies are probably my favorite slice of pop culture pie, and I reckon now it'll remain forever an exclusive treat for theater goers!
Heartburn! Priceless.
As others mentioned above - Always The Piemaker, Always Lee Pace.
I also immediately thought of Natalie Wood (and Jack & Tony) in The Great Race. If you grew up in the 60s, it was one of those "more is more" kind of movie moments.
