Neil Patrick Harris Will Host the Oscars & Complete His Life

SPOILERS TO GONE GIRL BELOW

Do you want to know what is so weird?

I literally just returned from a second screening of Gone Girl. I turn on twitter and I see Neil Patrick Harris's name everywhere.

So while I was watching him being gruesomely murdered whilst orgasming the rest of you, he was announcing to the world that he'll host the Oscars with a simple video in which he pans to his Bucket List, all of which he's now completed except "Host the Oscars". Let's hope his list continues on the next page of the legal pad because it's way creepy to be done with your Bucket List at 41. And even creepier that NPH's final act will be hosting the ceremony that pays homage to the movie in which he gets his throat slit with a box cutter!

Here are eight items he forgot to include on his list:

☑ Beat the odds and survive childhood stardom
 ☑ Win 3 People's Choice Awards
 ☑ Win 4 Emmys
☑ Become friends with Elton John
☑ Work with Joss Whedon twice
☑ Slather penis in fake blood for David Fincher
☑ Host the Tonys 4 Times
☑ Host the Emmys 2 Times

The Oscars probably want to play down his previous hosting gigs else it looks like sloppy sevenths. Still, we already know he's a perfect emcee for showbiz backpatting so, let us rejoice. The Oscars are just 130 days away on Sunday February 22nd, 2015.

Oops, spoiler alert, good thing I already saw the movie.

Duh, just saw the warning, sorry!

Yawn-his award show hosting gigs are too self-involved and increasingly smug. I would have preferred a number of other people.

Great news! Although there's the risk that we may never like him in movies as much as we do in awards ceremonies.

I like NPH just fine, but hearing that Julia Louis Dreyfus was offered the gig first and turned it down makes me dream of what it would've been like for her to host. I think she would've been an inspired choice.

NPH will kill this.

October 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTravis

God is good.

However, this will require the Oscar telecast writers to bring their A-game and write a killer opening musical number. Otherwise, it's all for naught.

Hopefully he is also producing (as he did the last Tony broadcast) and will have mucho input into the proceedings. I like him as host. He keeps it light and has a good feel for when facetiousness is cool and when it isn't.

NPH? No, thanks.

I can't think about his name or initials without the word "ingratiating" coming to mind. I'd rather see the ceremony go without a host.

NPH!!!! The Man.... call him a sissy and you will die!

October 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSteven

I am enthused about the inherent guarantee of a musical number!

God, I can't wait.

Bring back Seth MacFarlane!

I'm fine with Neil hosting. Always liked him.

October 15, 2014 | Unregistered Commenter3rtful

I find him incredibly overrated and unlikeable. Bring Ellen back.

October 16, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSad man

I am really pleased with this..

October 16, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermark

I think Emma Thompson would make for a smashing host:)

October 16, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDavid

David -- that she would. We can dream.

Jordan -- oh, that woulda been cool. Julia Louis Dreyfus yes.

Mark - me too. he's a good host and sure he's annoyingly ubiquitous but the host only really has to set the mood (high energy fun) and then they disappear for long stretches. He's perfectly good at doing that.

Julia Louis Dreyfus would be amazing. Emma Thompson and Julia together.

October 16, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSad man

Agreed, John T. But certainly an improvement on Ellen and Seth MacFarlane......

I like NPH, but he shines with an in-person audience who REALLY wants to be in the room, like the Tony audience. I was hoping for some crazy with Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader. Or Melissa McCarthy, or Stephen Colbert. Someone with fine improv skills so they don't have to always read the ridiculous scripts concocted for this event.

Also, this means NPH will probably NOT be doing the Tonys in 2015. Rats.

October 16, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPam

Pam: Would Simon Pegg and Nick Frost be a good choice for one of these? At least on a symbolic level they'd be amazing. (Y'know: "Hey kids, you know these great people who are generally thought to have done great work that critics groups didn't even stick up for in 2013? Well, now we've given them the chance to host.") Plus, I don't see Pegg and Frost really being bitter over getting the shaft or being forced to be at an awards show like that awful host who must not be named. The only issue would be the improv thing, but I think, if they were handed the gig, Pegg would probably work with the writers instead.
