That Tyler Perry choice of yours is very interesting. Do you believe he has what it takes? Because honestly I'm not feeling Tim Roth either...
The Supporting Actor category is very hard to read besides Norton, Simmons and Ruffalo.
I'm entertaining Brolin and Waltz as the other two, just because I believe 'Vice' will grab votes from PTA lovers across the board + Brolin has character actor cred (and that helps) and Waltz can get in if Big Eyes is a major player (coattails). But I can easily see Gleeson/Ishihara grabbing a spot and Ethan Hawke the other.
How Ethan Hawke isn't out there campaigning like mad is beyond me. I feel his nomination is at arm's reach if he gets a little bit talked about. 'Boyhood' is becoming a bigger avalanche than previously anticipated. The festival season was really weak in surprises.
Jay... yeah, i need to write about that category. I will try to do that by Monday. It is just wide wide open. for the final two slots. Anyone who isn't campaigning is insane.
I love that Anne Rice is a genuine kook. I remember when she would arrive to book signings in a casket via horse drawn carriage.

That Vulture piece is timely, with a new Anne Rice novel coming out in about a week and a half, a return to the Vampire Chronicles and available via pre-order on (wait for it) Amazon.
I'm sure Gena will get some traction for Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks.

I took a gander at the Best Actor chart and became horrified that the category has the potential to be populated by a biopic majority.
Nat, you list Matthew McC in Interstellar twice in Other Leads; was one of those supposed to be Russell Crowe in Noah? ;-)
I was pleasantly amazed by Tyler Perry, but I'm not sure there was an Oscar-clip moment; he was good because he was subtle and sardonic, and got the social meaning of his role. (I was disappointed by Fincher's other odd casting choice, Neil Patrick Harris, who seemed affected and self-conscious in a bad way.) I admire Ethan Hawke, but I don't think his character in Boyhood was sufficiently differentiated from his character in the Before movies or the persona he projects in interviews as himself, just too much of that smart, glib, near-endless talkiness. I look forward to reading Nathaniel's take on what could be either a very shallow or very strange Supporting Actor field. Is Channing Tatum too much of a lead to be campaigned there? I'm always rooting for the hunks to be great actors.
Owen I think Channing is way too much the lead, yes... since he has more screentime than the other guys and the story is essentially about him. Although stranger things have happened I supposed.
Good grief, so many things I've read about Michael Keaton (including that In Contention piece) wildly over-estimate his career.
