GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATIONS

No, Paula Patton did not become a Hollywood Foreign Press Associate. But she was helping with the nominations in the wee hours. The complete list of nominations with some commentary (more to come in additional posts) is after the jump...

Best Picture, Drama
"Boyhood"
"Foxcatcher"
"The Imitation Game"
"Selma"
"The Theory of Everything"

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: Foxcatcher, which needed the attention since its chilly and its long running buzz is much quieter than in the summer
VERY BAD NEWS FOR: Unbroken, which seemed right up the Globes alley and was completely shut out. The late screening releases this year seemed to have had some trouble -- especially with SAG

Best Picture, Comedy Or Musical
"Birdman"
"The Grand Budapest Hotel"
"Into the Woods"
"Pride"
"St. Vincent"

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: Fans of Pride (like myself) who wished and wished this day would come but didnt' quite believe that it would.
VERY BAD NEWS FOR: Fans of Begin Again (like myself) who assumed this day would NOT come and are non too pleased about its exclusion.

Best Actress, Motion Picture - Drama
Jennifer Aniston, "Cake"
Felicity Jones, "The Theory of Everything"
Julianne Moore, "Still Alice"
Rosamund Pike, "Gone Girl"
Reese Witherspoon, "Wild"

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: Jennifer Aniston who wants that fifth Best Actress spot bad and nature abhors a vacuum (and there just wasn't a lot of strong enough campaigning early enough for the longshots) so she might get it.
VERY BAD NEWS FOR: Marion Cotillard who just about every sane person agrees has become of the best screen actors on the entire planet over the past several years but can't even catch a break at Cannes ferchrissakes for winning stuff.

Best Actor, Motion Picture - Drama
Steve Carell, "Foxcatcher"
Benedict Cumberbatch, "Imitation Game"
Jake Gyllenhaal, "Nightcrawler"
David Oyelowo, "Selma"
Eddie Redmayne, "The Theory of Everything"

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: Oyelowo whose Q rating is lower than the others which is sometimes a problem for Globe nominations
VERY BAD NEWS FOR: Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) and Chadwick Boseman who had to get this since they didn't get SAG nods
IT DOESN'T MATTER FOR: Timothy Spall (Mr Turner) who was not likely here to begin with (glamour star Globe necessity quotient)

Best Actress, Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical
Amy Adams, "Big Eyes"
Emily Blunt, "Into the Woods"
Hellen Mirren, "The Hundred-Foot Journey"
Julianne Moore, "Map to the Stars"
Quvenzhane Wallis - "Annie"

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: no one in particular. None of these stars needed this. But it's fun to see Julianne double nominated for two such rich and very different performances.
VERY BAD NEWS FOR: Keira Knightley in Begin Again who so deserved a spot here and Jenny Slate in Obvious Child who a lot of people thought might make it.

Best Actor, Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical
Ralph Fiennes, "The Grand Budapest Hotel"
Michael Keaton, "Birdman"
Bill Murray, "St. Vincent"
Joaquin Phoenix, "Inherent Vice"
Christoph Waltz, "Big Eyes"

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: Ralph Fiennes who was probably a shoo in here but still needed the attention. Or at least the film did.
VERY BAD NEWS FOR: lovers of good acting since, well... each year i have to funnel my awards anger into one or two places so congrats Christoph Waltz, you win!

Best Supporting Actress, Motion Picture
Patricia Arquette, "Boyhood"
Jessica Chastain, "A Most Violent Year"
Keira Knightley, "The Imitation Game"
Emma Stone, "Birdman"
Meryle Streep, "Into the Woods"

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: Jessica Chastain after that explainable SAG snub (no screeners)
VERY BAD NEWS FOR: Laura Dern - Wild is struggling with awardage which is a real pity...

Best Supporting Actor, Motion Picture
Robert Duvall, "The Judge"
Ethan Hawke, "Boyhood"
Edward Norton, "Birdman"
Mark Ruffalo, "Foxcatcher"
J.K. Simmons, "Whiplash"

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: Everyone since this is the same list a SAG
VERY BAD NEWS FOR: Movie fans since there were several men who might have taken the Duvall spot (that few beyond his loyalists are passionate about) had they really been campaigned. But nature abhors a vacuum and without strong campaigns from the sidelines you get default "prestige" actors even if nobody likes their movie.

Best Director, Motion Picture
Wes Anderson, "The Grand Budapest Hotel"
Avu Duvernay, "Selma"
David Fincher, "Gone Girl"
Alejandro González Iñárritu, "Birdman"
Richard Linklater, "Boyhood"

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: Movie Lovers. I mean this category is insanely rich and kind of unexpected too.

VERY BAD NEWS FOR:... eh, not really. I still think Damien Chazelle (Whiplash), Morten Tyldum (Imitation Game), and James Marsh (Theory of Everything) have viable shots at an Oscar slot. Not all three will make it but *at least* one of them will.

Best Screenplay, Motion Picture
"The Grand Budapest Hotel"
"Gone Girl"
"Birdman"
"Boyhood"
"The Imitation Game"

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: Gone Girl which seems to have been fading with awards groups

Best Animated Feature
"The Boxtrolls"
"Big Hero 6"
"The Book Of Live"
"How To Train Your Dragon 2"
"The Lego Movie"

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: The Book of Life and The Boxtrolls which both unquestionably needed a little mainstream awards love.

Best Foreign Language Film
"Force Majure" - Sweden
"Gett, the Trial of Viviane Amsalem" - Israel
"Ida" - Poland
"Leviathan" - Russian
"Tangerines" - Estonia

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: Me, as an Oscar pundit since i've been predicting Tangerines forever and people have been like "what's that. why not [something more famous]?" ever since i started to.
VERY BAD NEWS FOR: nothing really. this category has different eligibility rules than Oscars and a different procedure to get to the nominees.

Best Original Song, Motion Picture
"Big Eyes" - "Big Eyes" - Music and Lyrics by: Lana Del Rey
"Glory" - "Selma" - Music and Lyrics by: John Legend, Common
"Mercy Is" - "Noah" - Music and Lyrics by: Patti Smith, Lenny Kaye
"Opportunity" - "Annie" - Music and Lyrics by: Greg Kurstin, Sia Furler, Will Gluck
"Yellow Flicker Beat" - "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Pt. 1" Music and Lyrics by: Lorde

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: no one since they don't get to perform on the ceremony which is just so so weird given the HFPA's interest in all star nominations in this category above anything else.
VERY BAD NEWS FOR: no one since this race is rarely correlative with Oscar's category. Still, it's super weird that "Lost Stars" from Begin Again isn't here.

Best Original Score, Motion Picture
Alexandre Desplat, "The Imitation Game"
Johann Johansson, "The Theory of Everything"
Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, "Gone Girl"
Antonio Sanchez, "Birdman"
Hans Zimmer, "Interstellar"

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: Antonio Sanchez -- his first film score!
VERY  BAD NEWS FOR: No one in particular

TELEVISION

Best Series, Drama

"The Affair"
"Downton Abbey"
"Game of Thrones"
"The Good Wife"
"House of Cards"

I GUESS I NEED TO WATCH: "The Affair" which I really meant to.

Best Series, Musical or Comedy
"Girls"
"Jane the Virgin"
"Orange Is The New Black"
"Silicon Valley"
"Transparent"

VERY GOOD NEWS FOR: people who wanted some shake-ups. Consider...

Best Mini-Series Or Motion Picture Made for Television"Fargo"
"The Missing"
"The Normal Heart"
"True Detective"
"Olive Kitteridge"

Best Actress, Series - Drama
Claire Danes, "Homeland"
Viola Davis, "How To Get Away With Murder"
Julianna Margulies, "The Good Wife"
Ruth Wilson, "The Affair"
Robin Wright, "House of Cards"

DID YOU NOTICE THAT: awards don't seem to have room for Kerry Washington now that Viola Davis is part of Shondaland? Same thing happened at SAG yesterday

Best Actor, Series - Drama

Clive Owen, "The Knick"
Liev Schreiber, "Ray Donovan"
Kevin Spacey, "House of Cards"
James Spader, "The Blacklist"
Dominic West, "The Affair"

OOPSIE: this may well be the first category of anything ever outside of Grammys where i don't or haven't watched any of them.

Best Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television

Maggie Gyllenhaal, "The Honorable Woman"
Jessica Lange, "American Horror Story: Freak Show"
Frances McDormand, "Olive Kitteridge"
Frances O'Connor, "The Missing"
Allison Tolman, "Fargo"

YAY: Maggie Gyllenhaal. I haven't seen it yet but she's always welcome to be in more stuff.
BOO: Jessica Lange. I say this with some degree of provocation. Look she's very good / intrinsic to the mythos of American Horror Story but, like al default nominees, sometimes she doesnt' deserve it. We're not seeing anything on Freakshow from her that's up to her stuff on previous seasons. She's on repeat now. So are the awards.

Best Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television

Martin Freeman, "Fargo"
Mark Ruffalo, "The Normal Heart"
Billy Bob Thornton, "Fargo"
Matthew McConaughey, "True Detective"
Woody Harrelson, "True Detective"

Lena Dunham, "Girls"
Edie Falco, "Nurse Jackie"
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, "Veep"
Gina Rodriguez, "Jane the Virgin"

Best Actor In A Series - Comedy Or Musical

Louis C.K., "Louie"
Don Cheadle, "House of Lies"
Rickey Gervais, "Derek"
William H. Macy, "Shameless"
Jeffrey Tambor, "Transparent"

YAY: Transparent is just so great, you know? Tambor's best work ever.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, Television

Uzo Aduba, "Orange Is The New Black"
Kathy Bates, "American Horror Story: Freak Show"
Joanne Froggatt, "Downton Abbey"
Allison Janney, "Mom"
Michelle Monaghan, "True Detective"

YAY FOR: Michelle Monaghan who was really good on True Detective and got next to no credit for being so.

AWARDS WATCHERS / CATEGORY FRAUD ENTHUSIASTS / EVERYONE TAKE NOTE...

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Television
Matt Bomer, "The Normal Heart"

No Keira Knightley for Begin Again. Boooooooo.

(But yay for Allison Tollman, Jane the Virgin and The Good Wife. And Julianne Moore for Maps to the Stars! And Selma! Which, yeah, I haven't seen yet but am so excited about!)

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDominique

I'm so happy for all the Gyllenhaal and Arquette+Hawke love! Hurrah for both SAG and GG!!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLorenzo

LOL at Quzenhane Wallis for Annie

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDave

PRIDE!!!!!!!!!!!

But seriously, no Keira Knightley for Begin Again?!?

Also, that is the greatest Best TV Comedy Series category we will likely ever see. SO THRILLED for Jane the Virgin and Gina Rodriguez!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterdenny

Where the hell are Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night) and Lisa Kudrow (The Comeback)?!?!?!? Absurd!

And is no one considering bumping Meryl Streep for once and replace her with Laura Dern? I think even Meryl is frustrated by being booked for the entire months of january and february EVERY year.

Otherwise... mehh.. I guess it looks good (read: boring)

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKevin

@Dave: Yes. I read this as "We really wish we would have nominated her for Beasts."

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDominik

I mean, it seems to me that Julianne Moore has an excellent shot at winning two Best Actress awards. The HFPA loves novelty and a banner year, right?

If she hadn't been nominated for Maps to the Stars it might've made sense to award Blunt or Adams. But now that she's in that mix, is there a louder, grabbier performance around her? If she doesn't win, it's not because she won't come close.

I just hope it's not Adams.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHayden W.

Julianne should win both.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoseph

Julianne should win both.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoseph

I know you hate his performance, but at least they nominated Christoph Waltz in the correct category this time. LOL

They must've HATED Unbroken. Weird.

Will we really be saying "Academy Award Nominee Jennifer Aniston" in the near future? Oh lord. I still think these bitches need to fight for that final spot in best actress. It will all come down to who ignites the most passion with their performances and surely Marion Cotillard or Hilary Swank or Gugu Mbatha-Raw will all have some loyal followings.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAaron

I'm with Denny! Can't believe Pride made it in!!!!!

Also excited that Julianne scored twice.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commentereurocheese

Streep is on her way to 19 Oscar nominations... If Dern gets in, she will be replacing someone else. I confidently believe Streep is a lock.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJamie

Film:

Very happy to see Birdman in Score! Would have liked to have seen Top Five in Best Comedy

TV:

Best Male Actor in Comedy looks like it will be quite the race. None of the shows the actors are nominated for were nominated for best TV Comedy.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMatty

People I know who have already seen Annie say Quvenzhane Wallis is very good in it. The problem is a lack of music and miscasting Miss Hannigan, not the children or adult ensemble.

It will be pretty sad if The Hunger Games finally gets an Oscar nomination just for the Lorde song. I mean, there's actually a song onscreen in this film (The Hanging Tree) written for the film and used in the actual story rather than Lorde's ending credits song. Let's not reward the excellent makeup, costume, or production design; let's go with that Lorde song.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRobert G

Wallis is even more surprising than Watts SAG nom yesterday ....

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRami

Good news:

Selma and The Grand Budapest Hotel are stronger.
Pride in Best Picture, Comedy Or Musical !!!!
Julianne Moore in Best Actress, Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical
Christoph Waltz IS NOT in Supporting !!!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNew

In order of appearance:

- Best song is their place to nominee pop stars. No surprises there except for Begin Again and maybe the Lego Movie. The AMPAS line up will be VERY different.

- Original Score line up is just perfection. I love it.

- Best Screenplay is a good mix. Considering they only have one category, I think they did it right.

- Foreign Language Film: Israel. It bothers me... That spot was for Belgium. Marion is really having a rough time.

- Animated Feature: The Book of Life... That won't hold. Princess Kaguya seems to be stronger in general.

- Best Actor (Drama & Comedy): Drama was copy paste from SAG. Comedy looks good although Joaquin Phoenix surprises me.

- Best Supporting Actor: copy paste from SAG too. And these will be AMPAS nominees too.

- Best Actress (Drama & Comedy): Jennifer Aniston loved by the two big awards announcing this month. She will not be a BAFTA nominee though but she clearly seems #5 or 6 at this point. If the Oscars really ignore foreign language performances, which HFPA normally rewards, then the spot is Aniston's.
In comedy, who saw that Annie nod? Kind of obvious, if you think about it. And Maps to the Stars was a comedy? Sorry, haven't seen it yet.

- Best Supporting Actress: Now the world is in order with Watts out and Chastain in. This I like. And they will all be Oscar nominees. The possibilities for Rene Russo, Carrie Coon, Carmen Ejogo or Laura Dern coming in are very VERY slim. And so sorry to Meryl fans but does she HAVE to be nominated every year? It seems that she has become a default nominee and, although she's a terrific actress, that's just wrong. Hope the role is truly that great.

- Best Director: I have to say I LOVE it. Sorry for Angelina but Unbroken hasn't taken off and its way too late now. DGA will settle it for good.

- Best Motion Picture (Drama & Comedy): Pride? Hey, I'm in! No problem there. And in Drama, everything as expected although is nice to see Selma and Foxcatcher.

Some TV remarks:

- Learn from HFPA, Emmy's and SAG. Their lineups everywhere are just great. Yes, some got left out but only William H. Macy kind of bothers me. The rest is great, it really is.

All in all, HFPA did a great job at being different but not too much.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPablo

Robert I would imagine the Academy will want to get JLaw back at the ceremony so the Hanging Tree may get a nom ...

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRami

The only thing that could cheer me up post Marions snub is a double win for Julianne.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKeegan

...first thought while scrolling through the nominations: it sounds like a "oh no! We hated, Unbroken, and Fury, and Depp's performance in Into the Woods. What will we do without Pitt, Jolie and Depp in the audience? ...Let's pretend both Everything Is Awesome and Begin Again didn't exist, and let's bring in some fancy singers. Lana Del Rey! John Legend! Patti Smith! Sia! Lorde!"

This lineup is very strong:

Best Series, Musical or Comedy
"Girls"
"Jane the Virgin"
"Orange Is The New Black"
"Silicon Valley"
"Transparent"

Also, is so good to not have Bryan Craston, Breaking Bad, etc, nominated by default. But the total absence of Mad Man is weird.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNew

Why aren't you illuminating us with your thoughts NATHANIEL ??

we need you!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDave

I know there's a lot to celebrate and complain about, but Robert Duvall closing in on a Ghosts-of-Mississippi style nomination is the most annoying development in the last couple of days for me, by far.
Not only that, but if he's the one that's needed to keep out Christoph Waltz, how are these are choices?!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMike in Canada

The Globes passed by an opportunity to nominate Angelina Jolie? I guess the only thing left in this world that we can always count on is The Globes nominating Meryl Streep for anything.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJan

I am genuinely excited to see who wins Actress in a Comedy-that could go a lot of different directions. And I wonder how many people around Hollywood look at that Best Actress in a Drama lineup and say "that sounds about right."

Also, and this is probably a bit random, but what is it going to take to get Melissa McCarthy a Golden Globe nomination? She's been Oscar-nominated for a film that a Best Picture nomination from the Globes, she's won an Emmy for a hit comedy series, starred in a major comedy blockbuster with a Globe winner, and now is the lead in another Best Picture nominee.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJohn T

I can't believe that with a year this good and this diversified, GG and SAG are so similar!! 9 out of the 10 supporting actors are the same! And 9 out of the SAG leading actors are just the GG drama ones and that's just because Michael Keaton is in Comedy. Don't get me wrong, I love most of the performances nominated, but it was fun to still wonder what the acting nominations would be, and now 90% of the fun is gone! I hope Oscar throws some curveballs! At least, the director nominations are fun.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBensunce

"Robert I would imagine the Academy will want to get JLaw back at the ceremony so the Hanging Tree may get a nom ..."

Not eligible. Lyrics were written before the movie (I think).

It's a solid if unspectacular set of nominees. The Julianne for MAPS is fun, and it's great to see PRIDE in there. Interesting that these guys are the first to give FOXCATCHER anything beyond actor/supporting actor though, right?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterGlenn

Marion Cotillard is in your hands now, BAFTA.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAaron

I didn't even notice Jane the Virgin getting love -- the show has terrible ratings, but The CW finally gets some love.

Overall, pretty great list. Sad about Mad Men, but maybe it will rally next year in its last season for nostalgic purposes.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBia

I'd like to think Nathaniel is single handedly responsible for the Pride nomination.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJase

I lost consciousness halfway through the nominations announcement because I was so bored. This is the most boring lineup ever.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCharlieG

JAN-

Yeah they adore Jolie and nominate her for pretty much anything... Add to this the fact that they could've had Aniston and her in the same room... you would think they would have eaten that right up! :)

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDave

Julia Roberts also missed out for The Normal Heart.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoseph

Julia Roberts also missed out for The Normal Heart.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoseph

Anyone else notice the snub for Julia Roberts in The Normal Heart? That category is always a clusterf*** but I thought she was the most likely nominee. The Globes really ignored their favorites this year (Brad, Angie, Julia, Johnny). Well, except Meryl who can seriously be nominated for anything.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAaron

BAFTA will be very different - Aniston certainly won't be eligible, Moore probably won't (?) and I can't imagine Witherspoon being their thing this year.

So I'd expect Jones, Pike, Cotillard and... ?????

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKermit_The_Frog

I still feel like Josh Brolin should be a lock for Supporting Actor in Inherent Vice but no one is nominating him. Whether you like the film or not the guy is fucking incredible in it. He is better than a lot the actual nominees.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJosh

No Marion and no Keira. Travesty!

The Knick deserved a Best Drama nod. Getting on, Masters of Sex, Mad Men and The Leftovers were also snubbed. Outrageous!

I don't gey the love for Uzo over the towering performances given by Lorraine and Kate.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPeggy Sue

With nominations for both Direction and Screenplay, Wes Anderson and The Grand Budapest Hotel suddenly look stronger with this BIG reminder to Oscar voters. It was a huge art-house success and critically praised, so I've got TGBH as one of Oscar's 9 or 10 Best Picture nominees, as well as Ralph Fiennes as a strong contender to bump Steve Carell out of Best Actor.

Go, Budapest Hotel.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJonathan

I'm too happy about the Grand Budapest haul (and, if I'm being honest, the Jolie and Eastwood shut-outs) to care about anything else.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

What's the Begin Again story with HFPA? Wasn't this movie made for the comedy musical categories?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMurtada.

Who would have thought Jolie and Eastwood would have so much in common? Massive global celebrities, dreadfully earnest filmmakers, drifting into conversations for nothing other than those two reasons. Maybe next she'll start composing her own scores.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHayden W.

Swank got v good notices for The Homesman here in the uk so bafta may go for her,so pleased to see Moore dbl nominated but where will the MTTS team place her for Oscars Supporting maybe.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermark

No love for American Sniper, either. Sorry, Clint.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDJDeeJay

Yay! Jane the Virgin and OITNB and Alan Cumming for The Good Wife, and best of all, Transparent! But it's pretty clear that cable TV and online sources have it in spades over network television.

Really surprised that Begin Again got nothing. I enjoyed it far more than Inside Llewelyn Davis.

Pulling for Ava DuVernay, even though Selma doesn't open around here until mid January.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPam

Given it's commercial success, I'm really surprised Gone Girl missed out on a Best Picture nod. Given Fincher's director nod, I have to imagine it was close, though

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAndy

Nathaniel, you HAVE to watch The Knick. Clive Owen is great, Sodeberg directs every episode, and it will be the first of many times you see Andre Holland in a breakout role. Plus, Cara Seymour as a bitchin nun

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBen

Hopeful that Jake G's surprisingly steady attention for Nighcrawler will bring in late attention for Russo, if not Riz Ahmed in supporting actor (if the Academy really wants to shake those two lists up).

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterzig

I still feel like Josh Brolin should be a lock for Supporting Actor in Inherent Vice but no one is nominating him. Whether you like the film or not the guy is fucking incredible in it. He is better than a lot the actual nominees.

Brolin is my preferred winner for the category. Now the Academy needs to surprise everyone and nominate him on Oscar morning. He must take out Ruffalo. Duvall has the veteran slot. And Simmons and Norton are locks. I forgot about Hawke and if anyone is vulnerable to an alternative it's him.
