The Ultimate "You Can't Sit With Us"

Jose here. True story, in ealy 1998 I was obsessed with the two women to the right. Julia was the star of the first non-animated movie I owned on VHS (My Best Friend's Wedding) and Gwynnie was my straight-crush du jour having stolen my heart in Great Expectations. That year I deemed them both as my favorite actresses (I was 12) and had forgotten all about how giddy they made me until I saw them together in this picture (taken at some gala celebrating Sean Penn). Of course, I started fantasizing/thinking about all of my favorite random celebrity couplings pictures (this one of Madonna making Pé drink champagne is a very close second), not to mention thinking about how Goldie would fare as Violet in August... but before I go down an endless pit of actressing, let us know:

What are some of your favorite random celebrity pictures? Which celebrities you'd like to see hanging out together?

I feel like all three of them are not acknowledging the fact that they are standing with two other people! Funnily enough its a bit like a Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue cover.

I LOVE Great Expectations -- kind of made me sad to hear Cuaron say that he didn't enjoy making it.

Nathaniel,

She really did, definitely more deserving than Helen Hunt for slot on the top 5 (sadly she won).
Which brings me to the question, which one of the nominated actresses would you have picked for the Oscar that year, Nathaniel, Jose?

wait which year are we talking about again? 1997? My Oscar belonged to Helena Bonham Carter 1000% percent for Wings of the Dove.

Yay for Goldie, nay for the rest. Replace them with Bette Midler and Diane Keaton and this photo would be heaven. We need a First Wives Club reunion STAT!

I love Gwyneth Paltrow. she stole my heart in Great Expectations too (the first movie I saw her in). this is one of my favorite pictures of her and another actress I love. http://www.zimbio.com/photos/Kate+Winslet/Gwyneth+Paltrow

When I saw this photo on my Iphone I thought that was Kate Hudson, she looks so much like her mother it's unreal

I loved the picture that was taken at one of the post-Oscar party's last year featuring Adele, Shirley Bassey, and Barbra Streisand together. I spent a while imagining what they would have to say about the state of movie theme songs generally and the Oscar's music branch specifically.

This stunning picture from the 2006 Academy Awards featuring Nic Kidman, Mary J. Blige, Meryl, and Oprah....

They all look a tad bit tipsy, and frankly the range of conversations could only be funny..

LOL. I was obsessed with Julia and Gwynnie, too. I wrote a high school paper on Julia and bought any film of hers that I could find on VHS. Gwyneth, I had decided at the time, was going to be my celebrity crush of the moment until I quick smart realized that it was just the green blouse from GREAT EXPECTATIONS that was doing it for me.

holy hell, Goldie Hawn looks so good here! When are we going to finally get her back on screen? I know she was in talks for "This is where I leave you", but Jane Fonda ended up taking the role. The Banger Sisters simply can't be her last role!

I don't think any picture can beat this one of Glenn Close, Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler

Meryl looks a lot like Angela Merkel.

Mike, that year I would've gone with Kate out of the nominees but Pam Grier and Julia gave my absolute favorite female performances of 1997.

brace, that picture is EVERYTHING and Pe is sitting in front of them! #swoon

Glenn, that blouse in the fountain scene...I buttoned all my shirts like that for weeks after I saw it and used towels or sheets as the skirt when I was bored at home.
