I would like to thank the academy... the audiences... the clipreels... the cast and crew... the parents of the cast and crew... the podium... the microphones... the cameras... the gown-makers... and anyone or anything else that made awards shows and acceptance speeches possible. My deepest gratitude...

Interesting how Cate never mentions Woody or indeed any of her co-stars by name ....
Mike -- Cate is a sly one, right ;) It's so calculated to skirt that whole thing with a PSH tribute (because who would dare question that decision?) but i support it since i think the whole notion that she should somehow be responsible for someone else's alleged crimes that took place before she ever appeared in a movie over 20 years ago is one of the stupidest things the court of public opinion has ever tried to foist onto the oscar race in all my years of oscar watching.
It's the only smartest way to do. Damned if she does and damned if she doesn't.
She'll mention Woody when she wins the big one (since no need to gain anyone's vote anymore!). Go and win that much deserved Best Actress you were robbed 16 years ago, Slay Cate!
You guy are almost as bad as Tom O'Neil for mentioning Blanchett does not mention Allen because she wants an oscar. Hoffman was a friend of hers and she wants to pay tribute as she should. It's no trick or move that she is not mentioning Allen it's because she cares for her deceased friend. She didn't evern mention anyone of the film even Hawkins who a she has mentioned in all her speechs. She feels for Hoffman in his passing and the website backlash is terrible and I never thought on Film Experince I would be seeing people fall to that level.
I believe the emotion behind all of it and I also believe Cate Blanchett is an incredibly smart lady. She is the mega star and acclaimed star she is because of her intelligence. Her performances are very well calculAted as are her style choices, her roles and her public appearances. She does not mention Woody Allen and does not thank him in that speech very deliberately I believe. And her hommage to Philip Seymour Hoffman is perfect and touching and very well thought out. I don't think the fact it was calculated undermines its validity. Maybe that's just me. All I know is that woman is a genius. She has proven this this year over and over again. I think she is a true feminine power in Hollywood and I think she should be celebrated for her intelligence and commitment. Her speeches are a performance in and of themselves. No histrionics but very efficient and always the most talked about speech of the night. You can even notice the voice deflections and the hand gestures. Anyways, this year has been good for my Cate fanboyism. It's so much more cathartic than thay Aviator year.
I'm sorry, but I feel we haven't properly praised Lupita's dress last night. I feel it deserves a whole essay or at a least a virtual centerfold.
Oh I love my Cate! Her speech was touching, short and good with a nice touch of sense of humor.

eoin -- it was just people conversing in the comments. we are hardly like those other sites that have undoubtedly written bitchy articles about it. i have not once played the stupid game of "PEOPLE SHOULD MAKE THIS ALL ABOUT THE WOODY ALLEN SCANDAL". I've been very careful not to do that because to equate Cate with that is, as i've stated many times in the comments and in articles, wrong.
i love blue jasmine and continue to hope Cate Blanchett wins the Oscar she richly deserves for it.
@ Peggy Sue - I second your motion. Her red carpet run this season has been flawless (that gorgeous golden look she had on the cover o VF was also stunning), but this one takes the cake! The editorial poses she was striking as she made her away across te red carpet were also perfection! I like it especially when Lupita tilts bck eer so slightly as if the massiveness or her own fierceness is weighing her down! Your work it, gurl! You work it!
Re: Cate's Speech. It was funny, sweet and dignified. It also seemed very personal and sincere! So if, in addition to that, it was also shrewd and well-played, congrats! I won't begrudge anyone for being classy AND smart!
Another fun, smart, heartfelt speech from La Blanchett. I actually think Cate did thank Woody. She started off talking about how lucky she was to get this great role. It's obvious who is responsible for that. I think she thanked him without saying his name. Now that's smart.
She's gonna have that Oscar now, and I can't wait!
